Netflix recently announced that a new comedy series, Murderville, will be coming out very soon. The six-episode "dramedy" will feature many celebrity guests who try and help a lead detective solve various murder cases. But based on what the streaming platform has said, there will be a twist to the whole storyline. Here's what we know so far.
Netflix's description teased: "every day means a new murder case and a new celebrity guest star as his partner." The lead roles will include Will Arnett as Detective Terry Seattle, Haneefah Wood as Chief Rhonda Jenkins, Lilan Bowden as Coroner Amber Kang, and Phillip Smithey as Detective Darren 'Daz' Phillips. And while they will know what is going on during the episodes, the featured stars will not. "They have no idea what's about to happen to them," as the streaming service revealed. "Together, the guest star and Terry Seattle [head detective] will have to improvise their way through the case... but it will be up to each celebrity guest alone to name the killer." We have no doubt that the unscripted scenes will be hilarious - especially with such hilarious guest stars like Annie Murphy, Conan O'Brien, Ken Jeong, Kumail Nanjiani, Marshawn Lynch, and Sharon Stone.
The idea for Murderville was loosely based on the hit BBC Three show Murder in Successville. Arnett said to the Hollywood Reporter, "We're basically making Law & Order without a script." The actor further shared his thoughts on the premise of the murder-comedy show: "I do think people liked the idea that they could come in, they didn't have to learn any dialogue, and they could be themselves and just go for a ride." He added, "And I have to give these people credit because it's freakin' scary as ****." The actor also shared the news of the upcoming series with his Instagram followers: "It's a lot of fun and sometimes they guess right - and sometimes they guess wrong!" Interesting...
Don't forget to check out the anticipated show, when it drops on Netflix February 3rd, to find out if your favorite comedians are able to accurately solve a murder mystery case. We'll definitely be streaming Murderville when it finally comes out next month! Until then, stay tuned.
