From stand-up specials to raunchy comedy series, Netflix has been keeping us laughing all summer long. And it doesn't look like it's going to end anytime soon thanks to the latest release.
Phil Wang, a British comedian well-known for his appearances on Taskmaster got the shot of a lifetime and was slotted with a Netflix stand-up special to put all of his original material on display. The special, titled Phil Wang: Philly Philly Wang Wang has been lined up for an August 10th release date, and was met with much anticipation. The official Netflix promo for the special promised an hour-long segment where "Phil Wang explores race, romance, politics and his mixed British-Malaysian heritage." The special was filmed at the London Palladium, a staple in the British comedy world that seats over 2,000 audience members at full capacity.
Netflix's official Instagram page for comedic content aired a teaser for the special on August 9th, creating even more buzz for the upcoming release. It was viewed by over 50,000 people and gave a little taste of what viewers can expect from the comedian's performance. Phil kept it incredibly relatable with his audience and kept the fans laughing as he provided the perfect explanation for body image dissatisfaction. "It's not really the job of your body to make you happy," the comedian explained. "What is your body? Your body is just a compromise you've made between the lifestyles you want to live at the same time." And judging by the audience's laughter, people couldn't have agreed more.
Phil wasn't afraid to poke fun at himself in order to get some laughs, and achieved by using his body to drive the joke home. "Like this is my body. This is not the body I want," the comedian explained. "I want a better body. But this is how much I want that body." The promo received tons of love on Instagram, with one user commenting, "This is so accurate I thought this was a TED talk," and another adding, "Okay this is GOLD!"
