Rapper Vince Staples is headed to Netflix for the upcoming scripted comedy series, The Vince Staples Show, which will be "loosely inspired" by the artist's life. The streamer has officially been given the green light to begin working on the project, filmed in Long Beach, which will star the highly-acclaimed artist. And we can't wait to see what he's been cooking up for us!
The rapper is teaming up with Kenya Barris (Black-ish) to executive produce the upcoming comedy, alongside Ian Edelman and Maurice Williams. The two are behind Kid Cudi's upcoming project, Entergalagtic, an animated series starring Cudi, Jessica Williams, and Timothee Chalamet, premiering at the end of the month. According to the artist, "This has been something I have been developing for some time, and I am happy it's coming to fruition." The Long Beach native is "excited to partner with Netflix and Kenya Barris" on the upcoming comedy, and according to Tracey Pakosta, the head of Netflix Comedy, she completely agrees.
In a recent statement released by Netflix, Pakosta shared her excitement to work alongside Staples. "It's our mission to work with the best artists in the world. Vince has already established himself as one of the most talented young musicians today, and we're really excited about how his sensibility – and sense of humor – will translate into a unique comedy series." Well, we're excited too! Besides killing it in the studio, the artist is no stranger to the big screen. He was recently cast in the White Men Can't Jump reboot and the Showtime pilot episode of The Wood.
Staples is all over the map. From acting to producing, rapping, and writing, the Norf Norf singer, can do no wrong. In addition to his upcoming show hitting Netflix, the artist released Limbo Beach, a graphic novel telling the "story of lost children fighting to regain their stolen youth." His most recent album, Romona Park Broke My Break, scaled the charts upon its release, solidifying the artist's spot as one of the best in the game. So, make sure to check back in for all things Vince Staples!
