Snoop Dogg is teaming up with Kenya Barris to produce MGM's latest comedy project, The Underdoggs, which the rapper will also be starring in! From rapping to acting, and everything else in between, the Long Beach native continues to amaze us. Here's what to know about his upcoming project...

Based on an original pitch from the rapper himself and his longtime business partner, Constance Schwartz-Morini, The Underdoggs will be produced under Snoops' very own Death Row Pictures alongside Kenya Barris, who is most famously known as the creator behind the ABC sitcom black-ish. The rapper will star as Jaycen Jennings, "2Js," a former NFL star who got into some trouble with the law and, instead of facing prison time, ends up coaching youth football in hopes of making a comeback to the field. According to the studio, The Underdoggs is "The Bad News Bears in the world of youth football" but reads as a love letter to both the player and the game.

According to the Drop It Like It's Hot rapper, the upcoming film is a "real personal project." He explained, "I've been coaching football for 15-plus years with the Snoop Youth Football League that I started with my longtime business partner Constance Schwartz-Morini." Snoop's Youth Football League gives back to L.A. by fostering kids in youth development on and off the field. "Giving back to the community through football has taught us so many invaluable life lessons that we've been able to share with kids in similar situations like mine when I was growing up," he said. "My hope is that this movie will shed light on the realities that kids and adults face in the hood and within the complex world of football."

Sounds like MGM is also pumped to get the ball rolling, per the media company's Chief Operating Officer, Chris Brearton. "Snoop's longtime commitment to his community via his youth football league is hugely inspiring to all of us at MGM." He added, "We are thrilled to be working alongside this incredible creative team to bring this great comedy to moviegoing audiences." We are also thrilled to see Snoop do his thing on the big screen, so stay tuned for updates!
