It may have been over sixteen years since Roseanne Barr last graced us all with her stand-up comedy skills., but the hilarious star is here to prove to us she's still got it. Back in 2006, Barr aired her last special, Blonde and Bitchin' on HBO, which was met with high praise and boosted her into the spotlight further. Early next year, she's hoping to find success yet again with her new special, A Roseanne Comedy Special. Here's what we know so far...
In the 1980s and 1990s, Roseanne was at the top of the comedy game. A stand-up star, comedian, and actor, she even had her own sitcom, Roseanne, which ran for nine seasons from 1988 to 1997. In 2018, the show was briefly revived in an ABC series titled Roseanne Returns. Unfortunately, however, behind the scenes, Barr's comedy skills were being overshadowed by her strong political opinions, which showed her in a whole new light and distracted her attention away from the entertainment industry.
Things took a turn for the worse when Roseanne published a racist-deemed tweet about Obama's aide, Valerie Jarrett. Less than two months after it returned, the Roseanne reboot was canceled by ABC and while the term cancel culture may not have been around back then, that was certainly her experience. Later that year, when the show was brought back to the network without its star and renamed The Conners, it was questioned whether she'd ever be able to make a comeback. After four years away from the public eye, we imagine she has a lot to say and we can't wait to hear it!
The one-hour special will be available to stream on Fox Nation in early 2023. Jason Klarman, the president of the streaming service owned by Fox News Media, made a statement about the comedian and their joint project. "Roseanne is a comedy icon whose humor connects with the American audience like no other,” he said. “Her ability to channel the challenges of everyday people and find the humor in it all has earned her the passionate following of millions of dedicated fans.” No release date has been announced just yet, but you're sure to hear it here first! Till then, stay tuned.
