It's pegged to be the "biggest women-led and women-powered" comedy and music festival that has existed for the last two decades, so undoubtedly, the release of its line-up is news worth reporting! The festival, which will take place in Chicago on June 11-12, announced on Tuesday its official line-up for their inaugural event. So, who is going to be there, and how do we get our hands on the tickets? Here's everything you need to know.
Comedians booked to appear include Chelsea Handler, Ilana Glazer, Fortune Feimster, Patti Harrison, Aida Rodriguez, Dulcé Sloan, and Sydnee Washington. Additionally, the Chicago improv group The Second City was also announced as an act. Senior marketing director, Vanessa Buenger, explained that the Comedy component of the festival was important for them to include because it is an industry in which women are severely unrepresented. "I know that women are underpaid here, but women are hilarious, and we are so excited to have a stage where women are going to have you just laughing your face off all weekend long.”
Shelley Phillips, the Executive Producer and Partner of Four Leaf Productions, summarized this new festival's concept: “VERSA is a one-of-a-kind live experience that will bring people together for a purpose – to remind women of their value and their voice. It’s exciting to build something that offers people a chance to have a good time and fight the good fight, all at once.” Buenger added that each performer at this festival was chosen very carefully to fit within the festival's overall vision and ethos. “The word diversity meant more to us than just ethnicity or gender expression; it really meant, where are you on your journey? And how can we help you get to the destination you’re seeking to reach?”
