She's got herself a Grammy nomination, an Emmy nod, and taken home an Oscar and a Golden Globe - so there's only really one thing left for Mo'Nique to do: a Netflix comedy special, of course! Thankfully, plans are already in the works for the star to begin filming the comedy show, and she recently took to Twitter to share her excitement over the film's development. Here's everything we know so far!
In a short video clip uploaded to the Netflix Twitter account, Mo'Nique broke the news to her fans. "I'm so excited to share that I'll be shooting my first Netflix comedy special," the actress explained in the clip. "Thank y'all, my sweet babies. I love us for real." The still-untitled special will be filmed in Atlanta towards the end of 2022, with the streaming site and the actress promising constant updates and teasers while we wait.
Fans of Mo'Nique may find this news surprising considering the actress's recent and public feud with the streaming site. Just last month, Mo'Nique settled a lawsuit that she filed against Netflix back in November 2019 on the grounds of race and sex discrimination. At the time, she accused the streamer of acting illegally when in 2018, they offered her a "lowball" offer for a comedy special. Her $500,000 paled in comparison to the $11 million offered to Amy Schumer and the $20 million to Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock. While the details of the case have remained under wraps, this new deal suggests there were thankfully no bitter endings.

In the second half of the comedy special announcement, Mo'Nique shared that she had also signed on to appear in the upcoming Netflix horror movie, The Deliverance, expected to be released in early 2023. While we sit around and await the arrival of what we're sure will be the ultimate comedic treat, we'll be doing our homework and streaming Mo'Nique's last comedy special, Mo'Nique & Friends: Live From Atlanta - which aired on Showtime back in 2020. Till then, stay tuned!
