Comedian and podcaster Marc Maron is officially heading to HBO! It was recently announced that Maron will debut his stand-up special on the network sometime in 2023. Here’s what we know so far.

Maron already has four stand-up specials under his belt, including 2013’s Thinky Pain, 2015’s More Later, 2017’s Too Real, and 2020’s End Times Fun. He has been on Netflix and Epix but never reached the famed network HBO. This is a big moment for the 59-year-old. He said in a statement, “I’ve wanted to do an HBO special my entire life. Literally my entire life. Not since I started doing comedy, but since I started watching comedy as a kid. It was where the real comedy happened. Always. I’m honored to be working with them. It’s been a hard few years and the hour I’ve been working on is very provocative and personal.” His HBO special will feature new material taped in New York City’s Town Hall in front of a live audience. The taping will take place on December 8th.

The podcast receives an average of 55 million listeners annually and has had some of the biggest stars on the interview-style podcast. From Robin Williams to Tony Hawk to Chelsea Handler, Maron has had the pleasure of interviewing some of the best and brightest. In addition to his podcast, the comedian has been keeping busy. He has starred in his IFC series Maron and appeared in Netflix’s GLOW. He also worked on films like JokerRespect, and Spenser Confidential and lent his voice to DC League of Super-Pets. Now he will fulfill a lifelong dream of doing a standup special on HBO! HBO’s executive VP of programming Nina Rosenstein said, “We’re long-time fans of everything Marc does, from his iconic podcast to his fearless standup. His new hour is deeply personal and darkly funny. This long overdue collaboration is an extra special one for us.”

We’re excited to see what Maron is working on. Make 2023 come faster! Until then, we’ll be tuning into an episode of his podcast to keep busy. Stay tuned.
