There's a new comedy series coming to Amazon Freevee, and if the cast and crew are anything to go off, it's set to hit the mark. The ad-supported streaming platform, previously known as IMDb TV, has placed a series order for Clean Slate. Produced by the legendary Norman Lear through his company Act III Productions, the show will star Laverne Cox and comedian George Wallace. First developed in February 2021, the show's green light has been a long time coming. Here's what you can expect when it finally drops.
Clean Slate tells the story of Henry (Wallace), a car wash owner in Alabama. Ecstatic to hear his estranged son is returning home after 17 years away, he is shocked when he sees his son is now a woman named Desiree (Cox). Forced to do some soul searching and personal reflection in the wake of this news, Henry and Desiree slowly begin to rebuild their complicated relationship.
Dan Ewen will work alongside Cox and Wallace to produce and write the show. Norman Lear and his partner Brent Miller will executively produce the series under the umbrella of Act III Productions, however, they will not be involved in the writing process. Paul Hilepo will also take on a non-writing producing role. Clean Slate comes to IMDB/Freevee as part of a deal between Act III and Sony Pictures TV. The second project, a show based on the board game Loteria, has yet to be greenlit.
