Fresh off the press, MTV has announced that they will be honoring the legendary comedian Jack Black at their upcoming Movie and TV Awards! Black, who is also famous for his acting and musical skills, has made a name for himself in Hollywood as a 'Jack of All Trades' (no pun intended!). From serious film projects to musicals, there's seemingly nothing he can't do. However, it's his comedic talents that perhaps stand out most - and that's exactly why he is the latest recipient of this prestigious award...
The 'Comedic Genius Award' is given to an actor who MTV believes has contributed significantly to the comedic world. Their body of comedic work is seen as influential and transformative for the comedic genre as a whole. Black has a wide range of hilarious film and television projects, which are likely to have landed him in this position. Appearing alongside Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart in Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle and the sequel Jumanji: The Next Level, Jack showed off his natural abilities on the big screen. Like a true millennial, he's also managed to conquer the world of YouTube with his viral channel Jablinski Games. On top of all this, he tours the world with his rock-folk comedy group, Tenacious D, for which he is the lead singer!
Of course, these projects are all on top of Black's classic movie credits, which instantly shot him into stardom. His best-known roles are Dewey Finn in School of Rock and Po in Kung Fu Panda, which helped him to be seen as one of the most sought-after funny guys in Hollywood. He's no stranger to critically acclaimed films either, appearing in Bernie in 2013, for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe. Moreover, he appeared in the Oscar-winning movie King Kong in 2005. His next project will be a sci-fi action comedy movie titled Borderlands, produced by Lionsgate.

With this win, Black will officially be the award's fifth recipient, following in the footsteps of some of the greatest comedians of our time. Firstly, Will Ferrell received it in 2013, Kevin Hart in 2015, Melissa McCarthy in 2016, and Sasha Baron Cohen in 2021. The MTV Movie and TV Awards ceremony will be hosted by Vanessa Hudgens at Barker Hangar on June 5 at 8 PM ET/PM. Until then, stay tuned.
