HBO's announcement that the upcoming fourth season of its hit comedy series, Barry, will be its last has left fans with mixed emotions. The show, which stars Bill Hader in the titular role and a talented ensemble cast including Henry Winkler, Sarah Goldberg, Anthony Carrigan, Stephen Root, D'Arcy Carden, and Michael Irby, has become an integral part of HBO's original content lineup since it premiered in 2018.
The eight-episode final season is set to debut on April 16 and promises to be an explosive and hilarious conclusion to Barry Berkman's story. The logline for season four reveals that Cousineau (Winkler) will be hailed as a hero while Barry's (Hader) arrest will have shocking consequences leading up to what is expected to be an exciting finale. Bill Hader expressed bittersweet feelings about the show coming to an end: "It’s been an amazing journey making this show, and it’s bittersweet that the story has come to its natural conclusion." He co-created the show with Alec Berg.
Barry has been a key anchor for HBO following the conclusion of other award-winning shows like Veep. It has received critical acclaim for its unique blend of comedy and drama, as well as its talented cast and crew. Fans have eagerly awaited its return since season three aired last year after a 3-year delay largely caused by the pandemic. Amy Gravitt, executive vice president of comedy at HBO/HBO Max, praised the immensely talented team behind Barry, saying: "After three masterful seasons of Barry, we are eager for viewers to see the powerful, complex, and hilarious conclusion to Barry Berkman's story. It has been a pleasure working with this immensely talented team, including Bill Hader, Alec Berg, Aida Rodgers, and the entire exceptional cast and crew."
