You may have discovered the lovable actress on Jane the Virgin or in the Netflix movie Someone Great, but either way, chances are high that you're a fan because, well, she is someone great. Since Jane the Virgin finished back in 2019, we've been greatly missing Gina's weekly appearance on our screens. So, we were ecstatic to hear ABC had cast her as the lead actress in their new comedy series, Not Dead Yet. Let's break it all down, shall we?
Based on Alexandra Potter's 2020 book Confessions of a Forty-Something F*** Up, this new series will follow Nell Stevens, a woman at a difficult time in her life who is looking for a new direction. After leaving her job in journalism to help her fiancé with his own career dreams, Nell is left single and poor, forced to move back to her hometown and live with awful roommates. A surprising turn of events finds Nell in an obituary writing position which changes her life in ways she did not expect. Described as a dark comedy with some sprinkles of heartwarming humor, this new single-camera ABC series is set to be our new binge obsession.
So, who's on the cast and crew? Casey Johnson, David Windsor, and McG are the brains behind the project, writing the script and producing the show. Johnson and Windsor are best known for creating The Real O'Neals on ABC and writing the scripts for Greek and Don't trust the B in Apartment 23. McG directed Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, Supernatural, Chuck and The O.C. Mary Viola (Shadowhunters, Turn & Hooch), and Corey Marsh (Tall Girl 2) will also be executive producers. Other than Gina, no other cast members have been announced yet.

In other Gina Rodriguez news, the Golden Globe winner has also been announced as the star of Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown on Apple TV+ as well as Lost Ollie on Netflix. Till those are released, you can catch her as the voice of Carmen in Netflix's Carmen Sandiego or in Disney+'s Diary of a Future President - which she happened to direct and produce as well. Does the woman ever sleep?!
