On June 27th, the sudden news was announced on Twitter that TV and stand-up star, Nick Nemeroff, had tragically passed away at the age of 32. Nemeroff was one of the most beloved and iconic Canadian comedians and is remembered as a 'comic's comic.' With his mellow-tone voice and unintentional awkward yet humorous nature, his comic legacy will go down in history. As titled on one of his YouTube skits, Nemeroff referred himself to as a 'less intimidating Michael Cera.' The comparison was merely perfect.
Nemeroff left many marks in the comic hall of fame, including his TV appearances on Conan, Just For Laughs Festival, Comedy Central's Up Next, and Canadian Roast Battle. Aside from your typical stand-up sessions, Nemeroff also released two short films, My Best Friend is Stuck on the Ceiling (2015) and System Error (2020) , as well as a comedy album titled The Pursuit of Comedy Has Ruined My Life released in 2019 which was nominated for a Juno Award, honoring Canadian entertainers. Nemeroff definitely went the extra mile to make sure his humor followed his fans wherever they were... as if it was comedy on demand, on-the-go. His family even eulogized him for always leaving with new fans after every show, guaranteed. It was simply impossible to not break into an oblivion of laughter watching Nemeroff work his perplexed magic.
Many fellow comedians are mourning the death of the Canadian comic, from Saturday Night Live stars like Sarah Sherman who praised Nemeroff over Instagram, remembering him as "the sweetest and funniest guy ever" while Chloe Fineman trademarked him as "one of the greats." Other TV personalities such as New Zealand's comedian Melanie Bracewell mourned his passing over social media with a dedicated post, while TV writer Robby Hoffman described him as "a brilliant and beautiful boy." Nemeroff's dedication to comedy was not gone unnoticed, acknowledging the love from all of his fans across Canada and the United States, as well as the large and committed crowds who continuously supported his shows.
It is still unknown how Nemeroff passed, and investigations are underway to understand the tragedy.
