As minor league baseball was officially canceled this week, one player refused to stop playing, so he found a major league team that wanted him. This eager player is no other than Rookie, the golden retriever who doubles as a 'bat dog' for the Trenton Thunder.
What a sad day, I won't be retrieving any @TrentonThunder bats this season. I look out on the empty seats and I miss all the fans & the players. I can't wait until me and Dash can go out there and play baseball again. pic.twitter.com/oTqNcXbe8X— Rookie (@BatdogRookie) June 30, 2020
After hearing the news of this jobless pup, the New York Yankees immediately called Rookie up to the big leagues to show Yankee Stadium what he does best. The timing actually worked out quite well for the Yankees, since all organizations are trying to limit the amount of human contact between players and staff.
Since there are no fans in the stands and essentially no energy to keep the players motivated, Rookie's also taken on the responsibility of boosting morale among the team.
Rookie is easily the most loyal bat boy that any team can possibly have, and the Yankees are thankful to have brought him aboard. Next time you're watching baseball on TV, keep an eye out for this energetic and amazing boy.
