29+ Funny and Humiliating Welcome Home Signs That Were Unforgettable
| LAST UPDATE 09/02/2021
Meeting loved ones after a flight can make the tiring journey worthwhile. But some of these funny airport greetings might've made the new arrivals regret ever stepping off the plane. Click through to judge for yourself.
So Call Me Baby
Imagine it's 2012 again. Carly Rae Jepsen's Call Me Maybe is blasting on the radio, you're happily singing along, and life is good. Well, it may get even better once you see the adorable greeting sign below.
It seems that baby Harper was meeting one of her parents for the first time. The adorable sign may just make us shed a tear or two. Big props to the lyrical genius who created the poster! Call us, maybe.
"I'll Raise It as My Own"
There might be some baby fever at the airport! The next sign is also baby-related, but this one's a little different. The person below decided to dress in a dapper suit and tie to present a very big proposition- he offered to raise someone else's child.
"I know it isn't mine, but I'll raise it as my own," reads the poster. It's possible this sign was just a practical joke, but surely hearts were melting if the offer was real. Either way, we would have loved to see how this airport encounter went down.
A Not-So-Welcoming Greeting
When someone is arriving home after a long trip, they usually expect an exciting reunion with their friends and family. Maybe travelers imagine a group of their closest loved ones waiting with balloons, signs, and big smiles on their faces. Well, the next greeting sign defies all of those expectations.
This guy's welcome greeting said, "Oh great you somehow survived." Well, isn't that lovely... kind of. We're not sure what the relationship is between the two people above, but hopefully, they have a similar sense of humor. Otherwise, he might be receiving the silent treatment on the ride home.
The Golden Ticket of Welcome Back Signs
Oompa Loompa doompadee doo... We've got another airport sign for you. This person went all out with their airport pickup. He made a great impression with a complete Charlie and the Chocolate Factory themed Oompa Loompa costume, including orange makeup, white eyebrows, and green hair.
The fictional creature's greeting sign said "Chocolate Johnny," so perhaps he was picking up movie star and modern-day Willy Wonka, Johnny Depp. Okay, fine, he probably was not picking up the Oscar-nominated actor with a handwritten, notebook paper sign.
Straight To the Point
If you were picking up the father of your future niece/nephew, you would likely think to write something sweet. Perhaps "Welcome to the family" or "Congrats on the new baby!" Well, the man below decided to skip the fluff and get straight to the point.
The sign is simple, handwritten in a blue marker on what looks like plain printer paper. Although it seems like this funny lad invested just 30 seconds of his life in making the greeting placard, it surely got a few laughs for being so direct. We just hope the future dad also found it funny.
Dumb and Dumber
It seems that dressing up with a suit jacket is a popular go-to for creative airport greeters. The woman below dressed up as a chauffeur to pick up her friend from the airport. She held a cardboard sign that said "Mary Swanson," and stood in front of a sleek, black car.
The set-up was a clever reference to the 1994 film, Dumb and Dumber. The movie followed the adventures of a limousine driver who fell in love with a woman he drove to the airport. The desired lady, named Mary Swanson, was thought to be very beautiful. That's quite the complimentary welcome home sign!
Too Much Information
While the previous greeting sign was flattering, the one below is more on the embarrassing side. It seems that poor Sarah requested some Imodium from the people picking her up after a big trip. But she probably didn't expect for them to make her bowel movements a public matter.
Sarah, if you're reading this, please don't be embarrassed. We know what it's like to have your digestive system be stirred up due to some traveling! This traveler might think twice the next time she asks her friends for a ride home from the airport!
Thank Goodness Mom Is Home
Being a parent and having to leave your children for a trip can be tough. You worry about your kids keeping a healthy routine, eating well, and managing to be happy without you. So the greeting sign below hopefully got a few laughs out of a likely nervous mother.
This cute sign filled with detailed drawings of some vehicles had a hilarious postscript: "We R out of underwear. We don't even have any on right now!!!" If this is true, we bet someone is going to be in big trouble! Or they'll just be on laundry duty for the next ten years.
The One With Princess Consuela
Who doesn't love a good Friends reference? This man is arguably a big fan of the hit television series if his greeting sign is any indication. The name on the piece of cardboard was probably an inside joke with his partner related to their favorite episode.
In season 10, the hysterical Phoebe found out she can legally change her name to anything she wants. So she naturally chose to call herself "Princess Consuela Bananahammock." Oh, Phoebe, what would we do without your sense of humor? For starters, this sign wouldn't be so funny.
Get Out of Her Way!
Sometimes it seems that everyone at the airport thinks they are the queens and kings of the world. People push to the front and get feisty in order to be the first to greet a loved one. But the little lady who was holding the poster seen below was hands-down the arrival terminal's VIP.
It seems like she was about to reunite with her father after some time away from each other, and we can't help but be excited for them both. If it was anything like the father-child reunion videos we've seen online, the event was both joyous and tearful. Get some tissues ready!
Welcome To the Sunshine State
At first glance, this dad and son trio might have the least creative welcome sign on our list. After all, it only says "Welcome to Florida" in colorful letters on a piece of cardboard. But once you take in the details of this picture, you probably can't help but smile at the adorableness of it all.
Since the family was residing in Florida, they went full tropical cheesiness for their airport get-up. The father was wearing a baseball cap to combat the sunny weather. But the best part was the Hawaiian-style t-shirts he and his son sported. Whoever they were greeting is one lucky guest!
#AnUpgradedWelcome
Someone get this man a trophy for his winning look. His Christmas-themed suit was overwhelmingly cheerful. But arguably the best part is how the people around him were dressed. While he was wearing a clothing combination that includes images of snowflakes and reindeers, others were sporting a different kind of attire.
Everyone else seems to have been wearing clothes geared towards a warmer season. Most people seen in the picture were in short-sleeved shirts and even tank-tops. This jokester was either having a Florida Christmas or he showed up like this in the middle of summer. Either way, we're loving it!
Some Family Fun
Imagine you're the mother of two children who you're raising with a loving husband. You've been away from them on a vacation or perhaps a business trip, and are looking forward to the reunion. Maybe you've even chatted with your airplane neighbor about your family and how great they are.
And then you get off the plain to this sign: "Welcome home from prison mom." The wife and mother of these three may have been tempted to just walk right by and pretend she didn't know the people holding these signs. But more likely, she had a great sense of humor and appreciated her family's creativity.
Darth Vader Has Arrived
We are positive this dad got a lot of attention when he picked his daughter up from the airport. Dressed head-to-toe as Darth Vader from the classic Star Wars movie franchise, Rebecca's father made quite the entrance. Was he able to make it past airport security in this costume?
The image above brings to mind a fun fact that Star Wars fans everywhere might enjoy. Darth Vader never actually said, "Luke, I am your father." While it is arguably one of the most famous lines in film, the actual quote is "No, I am your father." Nonetheless, Rebecca's dad deserves a round of applause for his dedication.
He's a Big Baby
For some context, the other side of this proud mom's greeting poster said "Joe, it's me... mom. Remember?" So it's possible her son had just returned from a long trip or maybe from college. Or better yet, he'd only been away for a few days and his mother wanted to make a dramatic welcoming.
But one thing is hard to argue: Joe doesn't look like he found the signs to be very funny. The young man looks like he was a bit embarrassed! Even so, his mama bear won't let him forget that no matter how old he gets, he will always be her baby. Mothers everywhere might empathize with this sentiment.
Did Someone Call the Chicago Bulls' Driver?
Basketball legend Michael Jordan has a net worth of about $1.6 billion, as reported by various sources. The Bulls star has had partnerships with the likes of Nike, Gatorade, McDonald's, and Chevrolet. So something tells us he is more likely to be traveling on a private jet than to be greeted by the sign below at an airport.
Yet this prankster managed to keep a straight face as he held a piece of cardboard with the name "Michael Jordan" hand-written onto it. He gets brownie points for his acting skills and his unbelievable joke. Whoever the goofy man was picking up probably had a few good laughs.
Confidential Information
Next, we have another greeting sign that was so ridiculously unbelievable, it just might make you crack up. All dressed up and wearing dark sunglasses to hide his confidential identity, the jokester below pretended to be picking up Edward Snowden from the airport.
We're not so sure how funny airport security thought this was. The real Snowden leaked highly classified information from the National Security Agency, making this a risky airport costume. But it does seem like the guy in the red polo was enjoying the greeter's costume.
Darth Vader's Entourage
Remember when we saw Darth Vader picking his daughter up from the airport? Well, this crew may have been there to welcome Rebecca's father. These friends dressed up as stormtroopers from the Star Wars films and held a sign printed with the name "Vader."
The best part? The person these Star Wars fans were there to greet came out in costume, too! Other pictures show a person dressed up as the legendary Darth Vader as he exited his gate and was saluted by the stormtroopers. What an impressive coordinated effort!
A Selfie Gone Wrong
Most people have taken an unflattering picture at some point or another. Whether it was on purpose or by accident, somewhere out in the world of technology is a silly picture of all of us. But what this family did might make you hesitate the next time you want to send a funny selfie to your loved ones.
This newly arrived traveler disembarked his flight to find a "Welcome home sign" next to a blown-up picture of his face. It looks like the poster showing Mokie posing with his tongue out was very heavy, considering the size and width of the stick being used to hold it up.
He's Not One To Break Tradition
We have seen some pretty funny airport greetings so far, but this one might be the cutest surprise yet. The husband pictured below and his wife have allegedly been celebrating National Margarita Day for years now, but a delayed flight threatened to ruin their annual tradition.
Instead of giving up on honoring one of their favorite days of the year, the elderly man took matters into his own hands. He took his margarita stand to the airport and had a lovely cheers with his wife when she disembarked. His dedication proves that where there's a will, there's a way.
Congratulations, Uncle!
When someone is pregnant, family and friends often find out in special ways. The expecting parents might let their loved ones know through a personal phone call, a surprising card, or maybe a message with an ultrasound picture. But these happy men decided to take a less traditional route.
Whoever Matt is, he had a surprising welcoming back at the airport, with a huge sign that let him know his sister was pregnant. We can't help but wonder where the future mother was, although it's possible she was taking the picture. Congratulations, Matt! We're happy for you.
Looking for Love
Most of us have at times made sacrifices or compromised on something for the ones we love. Well, these three teens sacrificed their important beauty rest to pick up their parents at the airport. Their revenge for having to wake up at four in the morning came in the form of a greeting sign.
The trio held a poster that read "3 sassy orphanz seek loving parents." Their mom and dad were probably too busy giggling to be insulted by the greeting. We're guessing these three already have some loving parents. Why else would they be willing to wake up so early?
Yeah, He Looks Pretty Excited
This next airport sign is a special one. This guy took interactive poster boards to a whole new level with a hole made perfectly for his face. Who's excited that Taylor and Steven are home? Whoever this bearded man is, no doubt! We give him five stars for his hand-drawing skills.
We hope Taylor and Steven appreciated his one-of-a-kind effort. While there was very little space in there for more than his head, there's little room for us to question his enthusiasm for the homecoming. This friend seems like one you should always keep around.
Welcoming Back the Baby Daddy
Even without the adorable greeting sign, the picture below might just make your heart flutter. This charming baby looked so excited to welcome back his dad, we hardly even noticed the poster amongst all of the cuteness going on. That smile is contagious!
But once you get past the little one's face and read the sign, it may have you chuckling. The mother of this infant wrote, "I took good care of mommy... but it is your turn now. She is A LOT of work." Something tells us this message was not to be taken literally.
An Airport Marriage Proposal... Kind Of
It sounds like something out of a romantic holiday movie. After many delayed flights and a threatening snowstorm, the protagonist finally lands at the airport. She disembarks the plane and enters the arrivals section to meet the love of her life. She can't believe it when he pulls out a poster and asks for her hand in marriage.
Sounds lovely, right? Well too bad that's not at all what happened here. This funny man apparently greets all of his visiting friends with a marriage proposal. Sadly, none of them have yet to give him an answer. What will he do if one of them finally says "yes?"
He's Basically Scottish Royalty
The simple message printed on the A4 paper below may look like it is made by any common folk. But alas, some intense research reveals otherwise. Whoever Douglas is, he seems to be a part of a historically important Scottish clan. A family so renowned that they even have their own crest- a lion's head wearing an antique crown.
The MacGregor Clan is a Highland Scottish clan that originated in the early 800s. The group's most famous member is probably Rob MacGregor, a folk hero in Scotland. Interestingly, the family is believed to have been among the first in the country to begin playing bagpipes in the 1600s. Douglas has quite the name to live up to!
An Excited Granddaughter
Aside from that award-winning smile, this little girl also had an incredible greeting sign. It might be hard to read, but below is an indisputable example that sometimes it's the thought that counts. Whoever she was picking up at the airport probably felt at home very quickly.
It seems we're not the only ones who think so. The child's dad took to Twitter to share the heartwarming sign. "Kid made a sign for grandma and grandpa's arrival," he wrote. "It's getting a lot of smiles at the airport while we wait." It's getting a lot of virtual smiles, too!
Time To Start Saving for a New Couch
Let's hope the returning traveler this poster was made for didn't spend too much money on their trip. Unfortunately for them, this sign indicates they may have to invest some of their funds on new furniture. You know what they say: a dog is a man's best friend.
But that doesn't mean the friendly canines won't take revenge if they are feeling left behind! In the future, the weary traveler may have to weigh out the pros and cons of a few options: travel alone and risk getting his couch eaten again, or pay extra for a furry travel companion.
A Celebrity Pick-up
The two gentlemen below show us once again that you can rarely go wrong with a classic suit-and-tie airport pickup. The two men decided to pick up their friend in style, including black sunglasses and an umbrella (despite the sunny weather). But their greeting wasn't only about fashion.
The comics were also making a clever reference to a popular television show. "Miss Wilson" is the name of a drama series based on the memoir of Alison Wilson, who worked as a secretary for the UK's intelligence service in the 1940s. That explains the James Bond vibes!
What's Cookin', Good Lookin'
We are getting some intense Men in Black vibes from the fellow in this shot. He made sure to get all dressed up for his important airport debut- a slick black tie paired with some intimidatingly dark sunglasses. And it seems like he had good reason to get suited up.
The fancy pants needed to look handsome for the "Smokin hot Italian chick" he was picking up. The lucky lady probably couldn't help but crack a smile at this complimentary sign. We just hope his girlfriend wasn't getting off a flight that came straight from Italy- that could cause some awkward confusion.
