Funny Auto-Correct Fails That Gave Us Second-Hand Embarrassment

Initially, the invention of autocorrect seemed like it was only going to make our lives easier. But what happens when your phone changes a word into something far from what you intended? Well, your best bet is to laugh off the embarrassment.

Barking Mad

The way things have been going lately, it’s impossible to argue that the world is full of unexpected things. But would you believe that thunderstorms are causing adults to bark? We’re not so sure either, but according to the person sending this text, they do!

There’s nothing like finding mutual experiences with your friends, even in peculiar ways like this. Though they both seem to have family members who like to bark, it seems like the sender clued in pretty quickly. Thankfully, the other texter realised their friend's mistake before things got weird.

Try Not To Call Your Boss A Walrus

Before we laugh our heads off at this next text, we should make it clear that it’s never ok to name call and insult someone, especially based on appearance. So it shouldn’t be a surprise when a mistake like this might send you into a panic, or REALLY annoy the person you sent it to.

If there’s any sign you should switch off your faulty auto-correct, it’s making an accidental insult about your employers looks. Thankfully for the employee, their “Boss Lady” seemed to take it well enough, even “weighing in” with a joke of her own. At least we hope so. If only all our bosses were as easy-going!

A Surprise Break-Up

This kind of text is right at the top of downright terrible (and hilarious) misunderstandings. Surely no one would warn their partner that they’re breaking up with them before they even arrive home, right? That’s what you’d expect, until you see a text conversation like this one.

As it turns out, Jenna got the wrong end of the stick, and her boyfriend got the shock of his life as a result. He may have never wanted to break up with her, but she certainly wasn’t against ending things. It looks like auto-correct has claimed another victim, and possibly an entire relationship.

Mother Knows Best

The bond between a mother and her child is one of the strongest. Your mother is usually your biggest fan, even as an adult. So it’s no surprise that this person's mother is still checking up on them, even for something as minor as a sewing project. Although we’re not sure he needs help with anything after this conversation.

And why is that? It may not be easy to understand at first, since he seems to have mixed up the kind of situation he’s got himself into. Thankfully, he soon assures his caring mother that he didn’t really have the kind of accident that she thought. Not only that, but he even fixed his pants all by himself.

Stay At Home

Poor Jane - all she wanted was to visit the anonymous sender, and instead she got a list of… confusing messages. It seems like Jane really wanted to see this person, but maybe he didn’t want to see her quite as much. He certainly didn’t want her to come over, so she got quite the shock when he told her his parents were homeless.

Thankfully his parents definitely had a home. But sadly for Jane, they were at that home in question. And it seems like the follow-up texts would have been less than impressive, and even more confusing. Doesn’t look like she’ll be going over anytime soon. Yikes!

You’re Eating What?

Well we definitely have a few questions for this texter. We may not understand anything he’s saying, but we surely want to. For example, what’s sersereal? Who is Sir Real? And what are these brands of cereal he’s telling his friend about? Does his friend understand what he means? The questions are endless.

After a flood of out-of-context messages, this exasperated texter finally settles on "White liquid with oats," and seems satisfied. So we guess he’s talking about cereal, unless this mysterious white liquid is something other than milk. Either way, he makes his breakfast sound more exciting than mine!

Take This To Your Grave

This conversation sure deserves a double-take. At first it’s sweet, just a simple goodnight message between two people. So what’s this about a casket? In the space of one short message, the conversation has gone from loving to sinister. Is it auto-correct, or is Emily’s boyfriend secretly plotting her demise?

Fortunately for Emily, this was a simple case of auto-correct working against the pair, and in reality he just wanted to buy her a castle. What a lucky girl! Unfortunately for the sender, the message sounds more than a little creepy, and it doesn’t seem like his queen is too keen to respond.

Awkward Office Small-Talk

Here we give you a text conversation with a real ‘ick’ factor, and a real case of mixed messages. It seems that the sender is only digging a deeper hole with every message they send. It makes you wonder who they’re sending them to, right? Let’s hope it’s not someone from the workplace, or worse, a family member.

Disaster seemed to strike a second time though, when the sender doubled-down with another awkward auto-correct. Whoever he was messaging was not impressed, making it clear that the string of messages was totally inappropriate. To our relief, the sender managed to correct himself, stating that he only wanted to join the group.

Just Take The Day Off

As we’ve seen already, there aren’t many situations as embarrassing as misunderstandings with your boss. Take Donna, who has decided to be overly honest about a workplace predicament. While no doubt your boss should appreciate honesty, it’s not always the best move, especially when you’re late because you’re stuck on the toilet!

It’s pretty obvious that her boss isn’t impressed with the oversharing, making it clear that her “sickness” would be better off kept at home. Donna soon realised what had happened, and after another slip up with auto-correct she managed to clear up the misunderstanding.

What Do You Want For Dinner?

When it comes to food, it’s best to be open minded. All around the world cultures have their own culinary delights that might seem alien to you, but are surprisingly delicious. However, there are limits to being this open minded. And when your girlfriend sends you a message requesting a dinner like this, it’s a cause for concern.

Poor Toby! Looks like he’s got a scary situation on his hands, now that his girlfriend has just declared her cannibal tendencies. What even is human beef? To Toby’s relief, it turns out she actually meant Hunan beef, a much more palatable dish. Let’s hope he doesn’t get in trouble for laughing during his work meeting.

A Poem From Mom

It’s gonna take awhile to unravel this string of strange messages. Who is husk? And what on earth would you save a maggot from? It looks like this mother is sending poetry to her child, rather than actual messages. At least she seems to be showing some motherly concern, asking if her child is sore.

Mistakes in Texts Mistakes in Texts
Reddit via BSaucy / Getty Images via Gabe Ginsberg

We’re not sure why he would be sore, or what she’s even trying to ask him. Just like poetry, it could take hours to unravel the meanings behind ducks and jackets, and the gaggle-making husk, whatever that is. Mom seems to give up trying to fight the auto-correct, and just like us, her child is left deeply confused.

How Was The Date?

We all want the best for our friends, so of course we want to know that their love life is going strong. But we’re sure Bryan’s friend got a little more than he was expecting when he asked if his buddy’s date was a success. He took her out to dinner and even walked her home, but what happened next is terrifying.

Turns out Bryan’s got a touch of American Psycho, since he apparently “killed” the girl after taking her home. His friend tries to lighten the mood, but we know we’d be scared! Thankfully auto-correct only wanted to make the date sound much worse than it was. In reality Bryan got a goodnight kiss, and his date got home safe.

To My Dead Husband

It’s lucky they’ve known each other for so long, or this interaction between a husband and wife could have been really awkward. While it starts off with a sweet and simple happy birthday message, it ends quite unexpectedly. One of these things is not like the other, clearly. Is it an auto-correct, or an ominous warning?

This is one of those situations when we really hope it’s auto-correct. And thankfully, Scott seems to understand his wife’s predicament. After all, “dear” and “dead” only have a one-letter difference. Let’s hope that’s true anyway, or the world might have another Carol Baskin on it’s hands.

A Christmas Surprise

Parents will be parents. No matter how old you are, they still want you around for the holidays. So it’s no surprise this mother wanted to make sure her daughter would be home for Christmas. But she was in for a surprise when she learned what her little girl was planning to bring home with her.

But there was no reason to panic after all, as it turns out precious Melissa isn’t as much of a rebel as we first thought. Nope, just another case of faulty auto-correct, saving Melissa from a potentially awkward Christmas get-together. No cause for worry mom, your daughter just wants to bring her boyfriend home. How nice!

We’re Pregnant!

This is definitely one of the more shocking accidental texts we’ve seen, no doubt causing havoc in this unsuspecting household. Considering how nosey a mother can be, it’s hard to know if this is a case of auto-correct or reverse psychology. Maybe mother’s intuition is more real than we thought?

But judging from her reaction, it seems like she really was in for a surprise. What started off as a sweet compliment to her darling daughter quickly turned into a family bombshell. Looks like the sender’s little secret is finally out. We hope her mother’s excited to be a grandparent!

Never Mind, You Can Keep It

There’s nothing worse than when you lend something to a friend and they lose it. Oh wait, scratch that. We’ve officially found something worse. This poor person just wanted their pencils back, and instead might never want to touch a pencil again after this message conversation. A friend in need, huh?

Mistakes in Texts Mistakes in Texts

Outside of the weird TMI factor, if you want to take your exam you really need the right pencils. We can't imagine the sender's panic when he saw his pencils were basically unusable because of his friends', ahem, unique idea of fun. Luck for him, it turns out his Number 2 pencils were safe in his locker all along.

No Business Like Show Business

Seems like auto-correct really did a number on Alison in this conversation. We know that productions like The Nutcracker take a lot of work and preparation, but apparently there’s more to putting on a play than we thought. Turns out it’s a little more complicated, particularly when it comes to how the cast are chosen.

In this performance of The Nutcracker it seems like these kids really get put through the wringer to prove their worth. First being auctioned, and then being suctioned with something? We guess it takes work to get to Broadway. Thankfully it was all just a misunderstanding, and Alison’s auto-correct was working overtime.

Sorry Baby (Gorilla)

Couples come up with all kinds of cute nicknames, and there are probably lot’s we haven’t heard yet. And while Baby Gorilla might seem like an odd choice to call your girlfriend, who are we to judge? There’s no reason a gorilla can’t be as adorable as a panda bear or kittens. Whatever floats your boat after all.

Unfortunately that’s not what’s happening here, and it seems like this texter made a big mistake which he quickly corrected. We just hope it hasn’t ruined his chances completely, and the “baby girl” in question hasn’t taken his accidental nickname the wrong way. Let’s hope he bounces back

Happy Anniversary

As funny as accidental texts can be, they aren’t all fun and games for the people involved. Take this text for example. It’s totally normal to want to celebrate a 6 month anniversary with your significant other. But what happens when you haven’t been together in half as long as that?

That’s right, this conversation took a shocking turn when it seems that the texter is wishing a happy 6-month anniversary to the “wrong person”. Who is the right person? We’re sure the person reading the messages wants to know too. It’s hard to see how their relationship survived this auto-correct obstacle.

The Wrong Kind Of Compliment?

You have to be careful giving compliments, since sometimes people can take them the wrong way. Though we’re sure pointing out that someone has gotten fatter is probably a bad idea, no matter the person. But that doesn’t seem to be true for this enthusiastic texter.

Thankfully the sender realized pretty quick that a mistake had been made, and tried to make it up as best as she could. A few “I’m sorry’s” and “I love you’s” seem to be a pretty good remedy for an awkward mistake. We can certainly see the funny side, and it seems like her friend could too.

Rebel Without a Cause

It may be immature but yes, even as adults we can still get a kick from rebelling against our parents. There is a little bit of entertainment in sticking out your tongue and saying “nuh nuh nuh” in different ways and seeing their annoyance. Although of course you should never take it too far.

So when mom told her kids about the flat tyre on the family car, Jack’s inner child stepped in. He decided to take advantage of his mother’s auto-correct failure to show off some of his artistic tendencies, drawing a quick cartoon of the family car, no doubt to the entertainment (and annoyance) of his family.

Life Is A Highway

In any relationship there will be hard times, where both parties maybe don’t see eye to eye. Sometimes they call it quits and sometimes they stay together. But how many times does your boyfriend drive away from you, with his mother's corpse in the car? In the case of Monica, it seems to have happened at least once.

So what happened with Mike’s mom? Was he trying her to the hospital, or was he trying to cover up a dark secret? Well you don’t need to worry. Fortunately for us, and Monica (and Mike’s mom), nothing of the sort happened. As it turns out, he just drove away in his mother's Camaro.

You’re An Animal

You need to be careful when you ask for your parents advice, because they can often be brutally honest. At Least that seemed to be the case here. It’s hard to tell if this texters mom just thinks she looks like a farm animal, or if “brown chicken brown cow” is actually a compliment in some parts of the world.

But no, it wasn’t either of those things. Looks like autocorrect got a hold of her mom’s phone, cos what she meant to say was that her daughter looks amazing! Whew. Seems that mom isn’t the best with modern slang, but that’s ok, at least she's supportive.m All we know is, we’d love to see that dress.

Bad News

No matter what age you are, you always want to know that your parents marriage is going well. So when this kid received a text about his mom and dad’s approaching divorce, you can imagine the panic he must have been feeling. Also, you’d think most parents would bring it up in person instead of through text, right?

It’s easy to forget that one auto-correct mistake can go on to ruin a person's day, or week, or even year. But, it wouldn’t be on the list if it was actually happening, would it? We’re sure he was happy to hear that it was indeed an accident, and his parents are actually taking a well-deserved vacation to Disneyland.

How Not To Interview

If you’re trying to wow a potential employer, this message is certainly one way to go about it! But if you’re already nervous about a job interview and then your auto-correct throws up a message like this, you’re in for a bit of a shock. We’re sure the company didn’t expect a reply like this one.

If only we could unsend text messages. This is one of those situations where a simple error could really mess with your life. And unfortunately, we never get to see how the interviewer responds. Let’s just hope that they find some humour in this ladies technological mistake, and she gets the job.

Will You Marry Me?

There are few things as validating as knowing that your friends really like your significant other. So it must feel amazing to have friends that are so supportive they even suggest you pop the question! That’s what happens in this text conversation, although the man in question doesn't seem so sure about the suggestion.

Apparently setting her on fire is a much better alternative? Yikes! We’re happy to see that this is just another case of a failed auto-correct, and the possible groom-to-be was just making a joke. Though we’re a bit worried about how encouraging his friend is about this sinister plan.

Can I Get A Haircut?

Here we have another awkward interaction between a mother and her children. It seems like ours moms just can’t catch a break when it comes to modern communication. This mom just wanted to know if her lovely daughter could give Arthur a haircut. She even went out of her way to call her offspring beautiful.

So there’s no doubt it must have hurt a little when she got a response like this! Not only is her daughter’s schedule fully booked (no haircut for Arthur, sadly), but she even got insulted for her question. Thankfully, her child isn’t really this rude, and she sent a prompt apology for this auto-correct fail.

Fire The Babysitter

What starts off as a funny, relatable conversation about babysitting plans, soon takes a dark turn. Of course you want to make a good impression on the parents before you bust out the sweatpants, snacks, and Riverdale marathons. At least until you get to know the family.

But what’s this? A hidden truth about babysitters? It’s not all about laxing out the couch, but apparently this babysitter wants to bring fire into the equation. No doubt a big no-no for the parents. Thankfully this texter also meant ignore rather than ignite. Looks like the children are safe for now!

My Favourite Things

When we’re receiving a compliment from someone, we’ll take what we can get! It doesn’t pay to be too fussy, especially when it’s coming from a romantic interest. But in the case of Alex and his texting buddy, there is such a thing as crossing a line. Seems like she may have been too forward with her feelings.

Mistakes in Texts Mistakes in Texts

Who would have suspected that THAT might be someone’s favorite thing about you? Poor Alex sure would have felt uncomfortable after this texting mishap. Thankfully she cleared up her mistake, assuring him that it is his freckles that she likes so much. And that, folks, is why catching up on sleep is so important.

Babysitters Fee

Believe it or not, feeding and looking after people’s children isn’t most people’s idea of a dream job. So make sure you pay your babysitter well, and on time. It seems like this man just wanted to make sure he had taken care of it, and that his wife knew. Although this isn’t the kind of payment they are probably thinking of.

Thankfully for the marriage, and their children, this text was another unfortunate case of auto-correct gone wild. Turns out the husband paid their babysitter in the traditional way, so everyone is happy. Luckily the loving couple still have a sense of humour after all these years!
