Drone Fishing & Drowsy Pilots: The 5 Most Ridiculous Stories This Week
| LAST UPDATE 11/30/2021
We as a society feel a certain pressure to stay up to date with the latest news. I mean, who wants to be told they're not relevant? *Gasp*
But sometimes we come across some crazy stories that make us question life. We've compiled our favorite wild stories from the past week, and we're sure you'll be raising eyebrows..
Pilot Passes Out Mid-Flight
For one trainee pilot, this ultimate nightmare became a reality, real quick. Max Sylvester, 29 was having his first aviation lesson in a tiny, 2-seater Cessna when instructor Robert Mollard suddenly passed out.
Max Sylvester. Instagram via ABCNetNewsA frantic Sylvester, who'd never flown the plane before, alerted Western Australia air traffic control. Miraculously, over the next 62 minutes, Max managed to complete an emergency landing into Jandakot Airport, all while unconscious pilot Mollard caught some shut eye on his shoulders.
Lighting A Cigarette At Gunpoint
I get it, I too am an adrenaline junkie. Skydiving, bungee jumping, I've done it all; But blatantly ignoring a gunman aiming his firearm your way is a little past the 'adventurous type.'
That's exactly what happened when St. Louis resident Tony Tovar was enjoying a cold brew at 'Behrmann’s Tavern'. As an armed assailant entered the bar, insisting everyone oblige to his demands, Tovar wasn't fazed in the slightest. CCTV cams show him remaining staunch by the bar as he continues to drink his sorrows away. In fact, Tovar is seen leisurely scrolling through his phone as he lights up a cigarette.
We don't know who this rare specimen is, but we'll have whatever he was having.
Basketball Team's Legendary Fail
I'm going to be honest here. I can't tell if their graphic designer had just submitted his 2 weeks notice or took notes from our sleepy pilot and hit the snooze button when it came to proofreading his creation. Either way, we're loving it.
Filipino basketball team Red Warriors unveiled their now-deleted ad campaign last month in preparation for the RedWire University Athletic Association of the Philippines championship. Safe to say, they've received a lot of feedback and attention on social media. So, in a way, their promotional efforts were...successful?
Mum Reincarnated As Daughter
I don't know about you guys but I can definitely admit I've had my fair share of arguments with my parents. But I'm lucky enough to say I've never had my mom try and impersonate me in order to evade cops. Davis County girl, Mercedes, was not as fortunate.
Heather Garcia, 38 was stopped by police last weekend after driving without a license plate. Upon further inspection, cops found drug traces in the vehicle and had no choice but to bring her in.
Now here's where it gets bizarre. During questioning, Garcia insisted her name was Mercedes and that she was born in '98. Upon validation of her real identity, it was revealed that the 38 year old had numerous warrants out for her arrest. Okay, at least this makes a little more sense now. I mean, still weird, but A+ for effort!
A New Fisherman's Friend
Just when you think you've seen it all, someone has to come and throws you for a loop. The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) are investigating a clip posted on social media last month after a man is shown fishing from a dangling drone.
The genius, identified as Sam Foreman, was making his rounds by the Upper Coliban Reservoir in central Victoria when the flick was captured. While we don't know how successful he was that day, we do know that we can't wait to try this at home. Just kidding, a little.
