It's been the burning question since HBO Max announced the latest installment of the Sex and the City franchise: what happened to Samantha? Why wasn't Samantha Jones scripted into the upcoming sequel, And Just Like That? Was there more to the story than we realized? Perhaps, there was...
It's been no surprise that actress Kim Cattrall has been finished with Sex and the City for some time now. Back in 2019, she was quoted by The Guardian on her blunt thoughts on the franchise. "I went past the finish line playing Samantha Jones," she confessed. "After the second movie, I'd had enough. I couldn't understand why they wouldn't just replace me with another actress instead of wasting time bullying." It was clear there was no convincing Kim, but what would that mean for her character?

Once production on the latest installment got started, it was clear that Cattrall was not on set and that she hadn't been replaced by another actress. However, what would the storyline explain regarding her absence? Killed off? Living somewhere in Europe? Well, according to a new report from The Daily Mail, there are new claims that explain the obvious lack of Samantha Jones.
According to the report, "show sources" explained that Samantha's character left "the city" and relocated to London, England. "Viewers will learn that she is thriving in England even though she has fallen out with Carrie," the document went on to reveal. Apparently, the creative team behind the script couldn't imagine keeping Jones in New York City, leaving the three remaining characters, Miranda, Carrie, and Charlotte, a chance to bump into her whilst shopping or socializing. "Sending her to Los Angeles wasn't an option as we'd done that in the first movie, so having her character based in London really was the perfect way to keep her alive and explain her absence."
