Steve Martin and Selena Gomez Team Up for Hilarious SNL Sketch
| LAST UPDATE 05/16/2022
When it was announced that Selena Gomez would be making her SNL hosting debut, we all dared to dream that her Only Murders In The Building co-stars, Steve Martin and Martin Short, would make an appearance. Thankfully they listened to our prayers, and boy did it deliver. Selena and Steve appeared alongside each other in a hilarious skit about historical inventions. Playing the inventor of the whoopie cushion, Steve Martin showed off exactly why he's a member of the SNL five-timers club. Here's what went down.
"The automobile, paper cup, dancing, the computer, these were all invented," opened Gomez as the fictional television series host. "But who did them, and what is their story?" she continued. "We begin with Archie Gizmo, the brilliant inventor of the whoopie cushion," she concluded. Dressed in a blue blazer, black turtleneck, and black trousers, Selena looked and acted the part of a television host so brilliantly that it was hard to remember it was not a real show.

With that intro, Steve Martin appeared on the screen as Gizmo himself, discussing the story behind his invention. “I knew it would be funny to have your boss sit down and a noise come from his butt. But I just couldn’t figure out what noise. I couldn’t crack it — but then, I met her.” Cue Aidy Bryant, AKA Miss Dina Beans. “I saw her from afar. Her energy was magnetic. Her eyes were endless. And every time she sat down: gas.” “It was that night he realized: the funniest noise that could come from a butt was a fart,” said Gomez.
From then, "Dina Beans became his muse," Gomez explained. "I fell in love with Dina, and she was behind every idea I ever had; she was the most viscously unlucky woman I ever met, " explained Martin. So when Dina got struck by lightning when shaking someone's hand or attacked by snakes when opening a can of peanuts, Archie found inspiration for his latest gags. “The greatest gag she ever goofed was marrying a guy like me. I love you, Dina Beans,” Martin added, holding out his hand to his wife. "Ouch!" she yelled as she was electrocuted again! Poor Dina.
