Hilarious SNL Sketch Shows John Mulaney’s Awkward Entry Into Five Timers Club!
| LAST UPDATE 03/03/2022
There are few things more exclusive than the SNL Five-Timers Club. Filled with some of the best comedians in the world, it's how you know you've made it. So when John Mulaney agreed to host SNL for a fifth time on February 26, 2022, we can imagine it was the ultimate"pinch me" moment for the star. The former SNL writer likely never dared to dream that one day he would be back as a host, never mind a five-time host! All that was left was his slightly intimidating ceremonial entrance into the Five-Timers Club on Saturday's show...
Walking into any room full of people can be a nerve-wracking experience for the best of us, so when John Mulaney made his debut entrance into the Five-Timers Club official lounge, it's understandable he was feeling a little imposters syndrome. Luckily Five Timer Members Steve Martin, Candice Bergen, and Paul Rudd were there to welcome him and make him feel right at home. "Megan Mulally!" exclaims Steve Martin. Yikes. To make things worse, it seemed Steve was not the only member unaware of John's comedic merits. "Congratulations, John, and let me be the first person to say... who are you?!" she quipped.
After a bumpy start, Tina Fey came to the new member's rescue. While sipping on the club's signature cocktail, the Five Timer Fizz (made from Justin Timberlake's tequila, Dan Aykroyd's vodka, and Tracey Morgan's Club Soda), Fey comforts the star by noting the many club members who were SNL writers before joining. To this, member Conan O'Brien has something to say, "well, me and John were never supposed to be on TV; we're hideous, right John?". Poor John can't seem to catch a break. That is until he is presented his Five Timer Club blazer, making it official. "Guys, thank you! This really does mean the world to me!" he remarked.

Mulaney has had a rough past few years with his substance abuse problems and very public divorce. So, his new club membership pass is likely to help ease his pain a little. And, if that doesn't do the trick, there's always the Five Timer Fizz on tap! Make sure to check out the full version of this hilarious sketch on the NBC SNL Instagram Page.
