Get ready to laugh because Saturday Night Live is officially back. The show’s 49th season is set to return on Saturday, October 14. Here’s what to expect from the upcoming season of the NBC sketch show, including former cast member Pete Davidson as host.
With the writers’ strike officially ending, the long-running show will be back. Starting off its monumental 49th season will be the former cast member Pete Davidson as host for his hosting debut. Davidson was most known for his hilarious character sketches, like Chad, and appearing as himself on the Weekend Update desk. During his nine years on the show, he established himself as one of the most recognized and adored comedians. Now, he is set to make his first appearance as host of the famed show. The Bupkis actor will be joined by breakout rapper Ice Spice as the musical guest, who is also making her first appearance on the show. Davidson was meant to make his hosting debut last year on May 6. However, the WGA strike changed the plans as productions halted from New York to Los Angeles.
Although there is still an ongoing actors’ strike occurring, SAG-AFTRA members are allowed to appear on SNL. The guild announced in a statement, “SAG-AFTRA members appearing on Saturday Night Live either as hosts, guests, or cast members are working under the Network Code Agreement, which is not a contract we are striking. They are not in violation of SAG-AFTRA strike rules, and we support them in fulfilling their contractual obligations.” Bad Bunny is set to appear the following week and do double duty. The Puerto Rican rapper and singer is set to host and be the show’s musical guest on October 21. This won’t be Bad Bunny’s first rodeo, either. He previously appeared on the show in February 2021. When the 48th season was cut short, Succession actor Kieran Culkin and White Lotus star Jennifer Coolidge were also scheduled to make hosting appearances. While there is still no word if they will be rescheduled for this upcoming season, we can only hope!
