Actress and singer Sheryl Lee Ralph just shared her opinions with the class. And from the sounds of it, she's all in for an Abbott Elementary musical adaptation! Here's what she teased in a recent interview...
For those who forgot - Abbott Elementary is a mockumentary-style comedy that centers around an elementary school and the hilarious group of faculty that keep the school running and the kids learning. Created by and starring comedian Quinta Brunson, the first season was nominated for an impressive seven Emmy awards, and it won three of them, with Sheryl Lee Ralph winning Best Supporting Actress! The second season of Abbott Elementary premiered on September 21, 2022. Lee Ralph stars as Barbara Howard, a kindergarten teacher who likes to keep things old-school and technology-free. She likes to do things her way. And it seems audiences can't get enough!
Lee Ralph spoke with E! News at the 2022 American Music Awards and was singing throughout her interview. This is nothing new, though! The actress actually sang her Emmy acceptance speech. She sang a few lines from Dianna Reeves’ Endangered Species, “I am a woman, I am an artist, and I know where my voice belongs.” She was given a standing ovation after her powerful speech. After singing through her interview, she said, “You know what? Abbott Elementary, The Musical. I see it. I love it. Come on Quinta.” Could you imagine? While the possibility of having a musical for the hit show may be far off, it is a fun thing to dream about. When asked about the show, the Broadway singer said about her boss, Quinta, “Let me tell you something, my boss is 32 years old, half my age, and I love her. And I am very happy to sit right at her knee and say, ‘Queen, what are we doing next?’ Because she knows what we’re doing next.”
If you can’t get enough of Sheryl Lee Ralph and need to see more, Abbott Elementary is currently airing on ABC and is available to stream on Hulu! Stay tuned for more updates.
