The second season of HBO's The Righteous Gemstones will finally be released on Sunday, January 9. After waiting since 2019, fans are excited for the comedy show to finally return. Here's what to expect from the series.

The funny show follows the life of a world-famous televangelist family. The original characters, played by Danny McBride, John Goodman, Edi Patterson, and Adam DeVine, will be returning, alongside new cast members, like Eric André, Eric Roberts, and Jason Schwartzman. The official trailer was dropped in December and teased fans with even more chaotic and hilarious adventures from the family. HBO's summary explained that the fam is threatened by people trying to ruin their empire in this season. Patterson, who plays Judy, opened up to E! News about what to expect. Firstly, she and Balz's character, BJ, are now married. According to Edi, "[Judy's] dad and/or her brothers had pissed her off or hurt her feelings." In response, the couple decided to elope at an amusement park. "They were probably somewhere near Disney World—or not. I mean, they've got jets. And I think it probably was a split-second decision off of some kind of perceived fight that she had had with her family," the actress revealed.

Those two aren't the only ones in season 2 to be in a happy relationship. McBride, who plays Jesse, revealed that he and his on-screen wife Amber (Cassidy Freeman) have revived their love following the season 1 blackmail incident. McBride said, "You definitely have to have the honesty if you want to build a strong relationship, and so these two being honest with how horrible they are, builds a strong relationship." The actor continued spilling details on the upcoming episodes, "They have a goal together and they're working on it together," he added. "I feel like they've committed to this relationship and to being honest with one another, and now they're putting all of that energy, instead of deceiving one another, into trying to take over this church."

Seems like there's a lot of drama and laughter to look forward to. Don't forget to check out the series, which returns on January 9, 2022, on HBO.
