Fans of the comedy series Reboot have unfortunately been left disappointed after learning it has been canceled by Hulu after just 1 season. That's right, folks. Here's what to know about the disappointing news.
The show, which debuted on the streamer in September of 2022, focused on the attempted Reboot of a successful 2000s sitcom called "Step Right Up." It put the spotlight on the characters of that show and followed them as they attempted to process individual issues whilst coming together. Mad About You's Paul Reiser played the show's original creator, and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend's Rachel Bloom played the millennial writer who wants to reboot the sitcom. The cast also included Keegan-Michael Key, Johnny Knoxville, Judy Greer, and Calum Worthy. Also, Dr. Ken's Krista Marie Yu portrayed the network exec tasked with overseeing the show and making sure it stays true to its roots. Steve Levitan served as the executive producer on Reboot. The series marked his major comeback since his long-running series Modern Family ended in 2020.
The series received a lot of critical acclaim and has maintained an impressive 88% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. An inside source allegedly reported that Levitan is looking to take the show further and shop for outlets for the series. Hopefully, Levitan will be able to find a new home for the comedy. Variety writer Caroline Framke wrote in her review of the Hulu series, "Most frustrating, though, is how each episode alternates between mocking the 'sitcommy' humor of shows like 'Step Right Up' while indulging its tropes completely." The first, and now the only, season of the series was 8 episodes long. Star Johnny Knoxville took to Instagram to express his disappointment. In his caption, he began with, "It's with a heavy heart that I say that despite getting great reviews and being nominated for a critics choice award @hulu has failed to pick up Reboot even for a second season. Pretty unbelievable."
