Are we the only ones who can't believe this past Saturday was Rami Malek's first time hosting Saturday Night Live? The Academy Award-winning actor just returned to the big screen in his villainous role in No Time to Die but stole our pop-culture hearts a long time ago with his lead parts in Mr. Robot and Bohemian Rhapsody. And now, we got to see Rami's comedic skills as he hit the stage at Studio 8H. Here are all of the hilarious details.
The talented star began the night strong with his opening monologue. As with any good SNL monologue, it involved the host roasting himself. "You know, I've played a lot of dramatic roles in my career. Most recently the new Bond villain," Rami said. "But I don't usually do comedy. Yeah, I tend to play these really intense characters. Which makes a lot of sense because people tell me I have what's called a 'resting villain face.'" The actor then showed viewers what his "neutral" face looks like and, let's just say, it was creepy.

Another highlight of the night was Malek's A-list acting on a trailer for the Brutal Marriage Movie, brought to us by the producers of Marriage Story, the studio that brought us Scenes From a Marriage, and the stunt team from Blue Valentine. And one thing's for sure about the sad film: it features "two actors who fully expect Oscars really chewing on it." The trailer adds, "Just two straight people with their straight little problems." Yeah, SNL did that.
One of the night's live sketches brought in Malek and Kenan Thompson for a "Prince-off," where the two actors had to give their best Prince performance. The instructions included imitating Prince licking his guitar, stepping on a leggo, getting in the shower when the water is too hot, and taking a COVID-test where they go up too far.
But probably the night's fan-favorite? Malek's and Pete Davidson's Squid Game sketch. "Yeah, I'm broke and it's a damn shame. Guess I gotta play the squid game," the duo hilariously sings as they poke fun at the hit Netflix drama. "They got symbols on their faces like the ones on Playstation and the main guy looks like Doctor Doom." We're not gonna lie, if the track is uploaded to Spotify, we will be listening to it on repeat.
Spoiler alert for those who haven't watched the much-talked-about series, only one can survive. You'll have to watch to find out whether it was Rami or Pete...
Hats off to SNL for another killer hosting debut.
