Forget trick-or-treating, these on-screen adventures are as sweet as it gets. From spooky slasher films to hilarious comedies, our Netflix-and-chills are about to reach a new level. Here are some Halloween movies and series coming this year.
Lucifer
What's so funny about a devil in disguise? A whole lot, actually. Fans of this hit drama already know what makes it so entertaining. From the mysterious story-line to the subtle one-liners, Lucifer is the guilty pleasure of guilty pleasures.
Lucky for us, Satan isn't retiring his horns just yet. This past September, Netflix released the 6th and final season of the hit series. But while this saga might be reaching its end, we've got lots more adventures where that came from. Keep scrolling...
Prey
Granted, most bachelor parties might end up a blur, but we've got a feeling this one will be haunting us forever: Our next Netflix adventure follows a group of friends as they head to the woods for one last hurrah. What could possibly go wrong, right?
Safe to say, a whole lot. As this thriller (now available for streaming) progresses, we'll watch our poor fiance and his friends attempt to escape from the wrath of a psychopathic killer. We've got a feeling what happens at this bachelor party won't be staying at this bachelor party...
Nightbooks
Many of us are suckers for a good bedtime story - but what if our lives depended on it? In this Netflix horror film, comedian Krysten Ritter stars as an evil witch who forces her captive - a young boy, Alex - to tell her a different scary story each night.
Make no mistake about it, though: it might be labeled a "kid-friendly" horror, but Alex's vivid imagination is reason enough to keep that nightlight handy. Or not - tune in to Nightbooks (already available online for streaming) to be the judge of that one.
Squid Game
Several billion dollars in exchange for winning a few children's games? Sounds almost too good to be true. Safe to say, the mysterious premise of this Korean horror is a lot darker than it sounds. As the series unravels, get ready for lots of scares (and surprises) as several strangers find themselves in the fight of their lives.
While we'll keep this page spoiler-free, we will say this: please, don't watch this one on an empty stomach. From the generous amount of gore to the disturbing plot twists, it's no surprise Squid Game has become the talk of the Netflix town. Check it out (already available for streaming) to see what all the hype is about.
Intrusion
In our next Netflix gem, don't expect any trick-or-treating. That's right - the neighbors headed for Freida Pinto's doorstep are expecting a whole lot more than candy. In Intrusion, get ready to follow the actress as her and her husband's move to a small town quickly takes a dark turn.
As the film's title suggests, their seemingly picture-perfect life begins to unravel after a home intrusion leaves Pinto questioning everything. Let's just say, things aren't as they seem. Tune into the psychological thriller, now available for streaming, to see how this one plays out.
Midnight Mass
Obsessed with The Haunting of Hill House? How about The Haunting of Bly Manor? Created by the same masterminds of those Netflix gems, Midnight Mass takes supernatural horror to a whole new level. Instead of a haunted mansion, get ready to experience a haunted island and all the eerie encounters it calls for.
But that's not even the best part. We'll also get to keep up with the same cast members as Hill House, as they bless us with another roller coaster of a ride. Expect lots of emotion, scares, and suspense - all wrapped into 7 insanely addictive episodes.
No One Gets Out Alive
While our next horror's title might seem to give it all away, we promise this Netflix original has more twists and turns than imaginable. No One Gets Out Alive follows one immigrant on her quest to fulfill the "American Dream." *Spoiler alert:* The same dream quickly morphs into one giant nightmare.
After moving to a mysteriously sleepy town (as one does in typical horror movie style), our main character quickly uncovers a sinister truth. But we won't give anything away here - tune in to the creepy adventure, already available for streaming on Netflix.
Scaredy Cats
Looking for a Halloween adventure that's fun for the whole family? Look no further. Scaredy Cats has the perfect amount of scares and laughs to keep our little ones glued to the screen (and away from our bedroom doors when bedtime comes rolling around).
The Netflix gem follows a 12-year-old girl who receives the birthday gift of a lifetime: a necklace. But not just any necklace. As the story (now available for streaming) progresses, get ready for talking cats, evil witches, and lots more surprises as our teenager uncovers a darker truth to her jewels.
Escape the Undertaker
This holiday season, our Naughty and Nice lists will be getting a brand new author: Us. In Escape the Undertaker, get ready to determine how the movie before us plays out. Looking for a happy ending? In the mood for a good scare? Our wish is Netflix's command!
As for what exactly to expect? In this interactive film, "It's up to viewers to decide the fate of these 3 poor souls trying to survive the wrath of The Undertaker," as Netflix teased. While we don't know much more than that, the WWE-inspired movie is already available for streaming. Tread lightly...
There’s Someone Inside Your House
When October 31 comes rolling around, we suggest keeping those doors double-locked: in this horrifying adventure, get ready for lots of scares as we watch a serial killer menace the residents of a small Nebraska town. Sound familiar? There's good reason for that.
There's Someone Inside Your House is actually based on the bestselling book by the same name. But don't worry - whether one's read the book or not, we've got a feeling this teen slasher won't disappoint. But tune in to the movie, now available for streaming, to be the judge of that one.
A Tale Dark & Grimm
Two children escaping home only to get eaten by an evil Witch might not make for the best family film. But as far as A Tale Dark & Grimm is concerned? That's exactly the case. The Netflix series offers a modern-day twist on a classic old wives' tale. Any guess which one we're talking about?
Of course, "Hansel and Gretel" - only this time around, things will be done a little bit differently. Expect lots of laughs and fun as this animated adventure takes viewers inside the world of not 1 - but 8 different Grimm fairy tales. Though we can't promise any happily ever afters...
Fever Dream
We've all experienced fevers, and we've all experienced dreams - but what about when they overlap? In this Netflix horror, get ready for a nightmare like never before as one woman encounters mind-bending hallucinations blurring lines between fantasy and reality.
As IMDb teased, get ready for "the haunting story of broken souls, toxins, looming environmental and spiritual catastrophes, and the ties that bind a parent to a child." Based on the acclaimed novel of the same name, this sick story is not one to be missed. Check it out on Netflix starting October 13.
Sharkdog’s Fintastic Halloween
Ever heard of the "Fearsome Fog?" Maybe not, but there's a good chance your little ones have. In this seasonal family adventure, we'll follow the Sharkpack as they join forces to warn us about a slimy sea monster. Still not spooked? How about this...
If Sharkdog and his friends don't save everyone from the evil villain, trick-or-treating will be destroyed forever. In other words, no free candy will be passed around October 31. Pretty scary if you ask us. Tune in to the animated adventure (debuting October 15) to see if our M&Ms and Skittles are still up for the taking.
You
We never thought we'd be excited to watch a psychopathic killer wreak havoc on an entire community. But that's exactly the effect Joe Goldberg has on us. On October 15, get ready to pick right back up where we left off as Netflix blesses us with season 3 of this addictive thriller.
With a new baby and place to call home, our favorite stalker might be all grown up, but something tells us old habits die hard. "The episodes are... bonkers, and the performances are insanely good," showrunner Sera Gamble teased of the upcoming season.
Night Teeth
When we're little, we're told not to get into cars with strangers. But what about those on the receiving end? In this Netflix original horror, we'll be living out one Uber driver's worst nightmare as he realizes his latest passengers aren't as innocent as they seem.
Night Teeth follows "Benny:" a college student strapped for cash who picks up 2 mysterious riders. But things quickly take a sharp turn after he discovers their true intentions. Safe to say, expect the ride of your life when this suspenseful thriller hits our screens October 20.
Hypnotic
Self-help is admirable and all - but how about when it's not? This Netflix horror serves as a cautionary tale for those of us looking for our next therapist: make sure to do proper vetting. Unfortunately for the star of this film, that's something she found out the hard way.
Hypnotic tells the story of one woman's journey through hypnotherapy. As she soon finds out, her seemingly renowned hypnotherapist holds a secret that leaves her fearing for her life. Safe to say, a hefty therapy bill isn't the only price she'll have to pay - but we'll find that out soon enough when this gem debuts October 27.
Locke & Key
This Halloween, as we make our way around the neighborhood for some free candy, we'll be choosing very wisely which doorsteps we end up on. And we've actually got this Netflix series to thank for that. In Locke & Key, we watched one family's world get turned upside down after moving into Keyhouse Manor.
Lucky for us, our house tour is far from over: on October 22, the supernatural horror will be returning to our screens for season 2. "We have some incredible adventures in store for the Locke family," showrunner Carlton Cuse teased. Consider us intrigued...
Nobody Sleeps in the Woods Tonight 2
Nobody might be sleeping in the woods tonight, but trust us when we say this: after tuning in to this Netflix horror, we, too, won't be getting any sleep tonight. This Polish slasher follows several teens who find themselves at the wrong place at the wrong time after heading to the woods for a relaxing retreat.
Lucky for us, the gory adventure will be returning to our screens - right in time for Halloween. As the streaming giant announced, Nobody Sleeps in the Woods Tonight 2 is slated for an October 27 release date. Until then, have that popcorn ready and make sure to double lock those doors.
Ghost
This spooky season, we might be getting our fair share of thrills. But don't worry - we're also here to turn up the heat. Look no further than Ghost: the perfect combination of romance, drama, and, of course, ghosts. But if by some chance the name doesn't ring a bell?
The 1990s classic tells the story of star-crossed lovers who enlist the help of a psychic to communicate. Why? Did we forget to mention one of them is dead? Yep, not exactly the most realistic plot, but that's exactly what we love about the feel-good supernatural drama (already available for streaming).
The Movies That Made Us
Our next Netflix must-watch is exactly what it sounds like: the movies that made us. This documentary series takes viewers on a trip down memory lane as we dive back into the most noteworthy movies over the years. Lucky for us, the long-anticipated 3rd season is back - and with a twist.
Season 3 - which is now available for streaming - is set to focus solely on Halloween classics. From Halloween to The Nightmare on Elm Street to, of course, Friday the 13th, get ready for a whole lot of nostalgia (and only a little bit of nightmares).
Afterlife of the Party
Alright we've had enough scares for one night: Our next Halloween staple serves as a hilarious reminder that death doesn't need to be so, well, scary. In Afterlife of the Party, we'll follow the story of Nickelodeon star Victoria Justice after she's resurrected as a ghost on a quest to tie up some loose ends.
But there's a twist: in order to earn her wings, the deceased party girl will have to right all of her wrongs (psst, there are lots of them). Expect lots of laughs and tears in this heartfelt comedy - perfect for a night in when that Fall weather starts to hit.
Riverdale
Granted, it might not classify as a "comedy." But trust us when we say this amusing high-school drama is ahead of the class. Riverdale follows the eventful, to say the least, lives of several trouble-making teens as they navigate their way through adulthood. But it's not as simple as it sounds.
From Gargoyle Kings to sneaky serial killers, the spooky drama will leave you clinging to the edge of the seat as the "whodunnit" adventure unravels on our screen. But don't worry, there's lots of laughs and entertainment where that came from. Check out Riverdale's season 5, now available online.
True Story
This Halloween season, Kevin Hart will be dressing up as... himself? In True Story, the legendary funny guy is set to star as a fictionalized version of himself. Unfortunately, it's not all fun and games, as we'll soon find out for ourselves in this suspenseful Netflix drama.
As the streaming giant teased, "a tour stop becomes a matter of life and death for a comedian [Kevin Hart]." And while we're not used to seeing the funny guy look so serious, this scripted adventure will be worthy of a spot on our watch-list when it airs November 24.
Inside Job
Ever wondered who's behind some of America's most chilling headlines? No, we're not talking about serial killers or evil witches. This spooky season, curl up on the couch to this hilarious satirical adventure, unveiling the "truth" behind the world's biggest conspiracies.
The Netflix comedy (which debuts October 22) follows the daily lives of those at Cognito, Inc. - a fictional company responsible for conspiracy theories. Forget horror movies or Halloween costumes, let this amusing series serve as a cautionary tale that our worst nightmares might just be hiding in plain sight, after all.
Hubie Halloween
While it may not be new to the Netflix scene, well, how can we not mention Adam Sandler's holiday gem? Hubie Halloween has all the ingredients for our new favorite Halloween comedy. From the subtle one-liners to the spooky vibe throughout, get ready for some seasonal fun like never before.
As for what to expect, exactly? This family film (available now) follows the adventures of Hubie, a Halloween-obsessed deli worker who finds himself entangled in his very own murder mystery. And while we won't reveal whodunnit, we will say Sandler's role as a naive detective is exactly as hilarious as it sounds.
Don't Look Up
What's so funny about a disastrous comet headed for planet Earth? Nothing, of course. But leave it to this upcoming comedy to turn it into a lighthearted, thrilling adventure. In Don't Look Up, get ready for scares like never before, as we watch Leonardo DiCaprio save the day from mass destruction. Well, at least attempt to.
But the best part? The Oscar-winning legend will be joined by many other familiar faces doing so. From Ariana Grande to Jennifer Lawrence to Jonah Hill, this dramedy will be bringing Hollywood together for some good ol' laughs and thrills. Be sure to join in on the fun when Don't Look Up debuts December 10.
Spy Kids
Finding out your parents are top-secret spies is scary enough. But being forced to team up with your annoying little brother in the process? That's a nightmare of its own. In this nostalgic classic, get ready to relive a childhood favorite as we watch Carmen and Juni save the day - that is, when they're not pulling each other's hair out.
Featuring henchmen shaped like thumbs (yes, thumbs) and colorful sidekicks that look unworldly, Spy Kids is bound to provide the perfect amount of scares this October 31. The action-comedy is already available for streaming, and we couldn't be happier.
Thunder Force
This Halloween, forget dressing up as our favorite superheroes - we can finally be them: In this Netflix adventure, get ready to save the day as Melissa McCarthy and her BFF invent a formula that gives ordinary folks superpowers. But of course, in typical McCarthy nature, expect a whole lot of laughs in the process.
The quirky Netflix comedy sees two childhood best friends (McCarthy and Octavia Spencer) reunite as crime-stopping superheroes after their special formula ends up in the wrong hands. Oh, and did we mention McCarthy's own husband penned the entire adventure? We wouldn't miss out on this one (already available for streaming).
Big Mouth
Hormone monsters, alternate dimensions, and talking pillows? This Netflix comedy is as twisted as they come - and that's exactly what we love about it. Get ready for a hilarious (and slightly awkward) trip down memory lane as we follow the lives of several students on their journey through puberty.
Lucky for us, class isn't out just yet. The long-awaited 5th season is set to debut on Netflix on November 5. In other words? Those of us who somehow haven't yet tuned into the quirky comedy have got lots of catching up to do until then. Better get on that.
Rick and Morty
Last but certainly not least, this Halloween treat is simply out of this world. No, really. Get ready to be taken to lots of alternate, twisted dimensions as we watch a slightly sociopathic scientist travel around the galaxy with his helpless grandson.
Sound amusing? Oh, it is. From talking pickles to undercover aliens, get ready for lots of twists and turns (and secondhand embarrassment) in this hilarious animated adventure. The 5th season made its return to our Netflix screens this past June, and you don't want to miss this family reunion.
