A new pair of superheroes is soaring into Netflix next month, featuring Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer. The trailer for Thunder Force has officially been released, giving us a glimpse into McCarthy and Spencer's journey as best friends learning to navigate life with their newly acquired superpowers.
"In a world terrorized by super-villains, one woman has developed the process to give superpowers to regular people," as said in the film's official synopsis. In the trailer, Lydia, played by Melissa, reunites with her childhood friend, Emily Stanton, played by Octavia, a renowned scientist who created technology that gives ordinary people superpowers. Emily warns Lydia not to touch anything, but she can't resist and winds up adopting superstrength. Together, the women become the world's first real-life superhero duo and have to take on a new villain in town.
"Now, it is up to Thunder Force to battle the super-powered Miscreants and save Chicago from the clutches of the King." Thunder Force, which will be available on Netflix starting April 9th, was directed by McCarthy's husband, Ben Falcone, who also worked with McCarthy on Tammy, The Boss, and other successful films. The cast includes more famous faces, including Jason Bateman, Pom Klementieff, and others. Melissa and Octavia recently discussed the upcoming film on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, as well as their 25-year friendship.
Octavia revealed that Melissa does many of her own stunts, saying, "where Melissa is fearless, I am fearful." But if you ask McCarthy? "I love a harness. Throw me around, swing me against walls," she said. This dynamic duo also co-starred in Pretty Ugly People in 2008, so they were thrilled about the opportunity to work together again years later.
Thunder Force isn't the only new comedy available on Netflix these days; Bad Trip will be on the platform on March 26th, starring Eric Andre and Tiffany Haddish. I Care a Lot, starring Rosamund Pike, also made its way to Netflix recently, which follows a legal guardian who tries to obtain the life savings of some elderly folks. So, get ready for some laughs, with a whole new selection of hilarious movies to watch.
