It's official: the cast of the beloved 2003 film will be reuniting in a one-hour special with Diane Sawyer as they reminisce about the hit holiday classic, share never-before-told secrets about filming, and talk about something everyone can relate to – love! Here's what to expect.
Almost two decades after the movie premiered, Love Actually is still deeply loved by audiences everywhere. It has become a holiday staple in many homes. The ensemble romantic comedy features some of the greatest stars of all time, many of whom will be coming together on ABC News for this special. Those returning include Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant, Laura Linney, Bill Nighy, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Olivia Olson, the writer and director Richard Curtis, and Martin McCutcheon. The special is titled The Laughter & Secrets of Love Actually: 20 Years Later. Can you believe it has been twenty years since Hugh Grant did that iconic dance?
The special “will look at how the film became a beloved Christmas tradition and a global sensation, with new insight into behind-the-scenes secrets and iconic scenes,” according to a release put out. “The special will also examine how the COVID-19 pandemic refocused the ways we love and connect and the omnipresent acts of kindness inside our families and communities.” What other behind-the-scenes secrets will they share? Then again, this is not the first time the cast has reunited in recent years. In 2017, many cast members reunited for a 10-minute sequel as part of Comic Relief’s annual Red Nose Day fundraiser. The sequel was written and directed by Richard Curtis, who wrote and directed the original. It also featured members of the star-studded cast like Keira Knightley, Colin Firth, Liam Neeson, Rowan Atkinson, Hugh Grant, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, and more.
