At the 27th SAG awards on April the 4th, Jason Sudeikis celebrated yet another accomplishment. He won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series. The actor added the feat to his growing stash of awards for Ted Lasso with this award along with his Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Television Series Musical Comedy to name a few.

The award show was shortened and pre-recorded, meaning the winners were informed of their victories a few days before being on air. The acceptance speeches were also pre-taped, but that didn't stop the actor from dishing out some entertaining words. "Thank you to all of my fellow actors," Sudeikis exclaimed, sporting his character's recognizable mustache. "I want to thank my mom for bringing me to plays and musicals in Kansas City when every touring company came through."

Ted Lasso, which premiered on Apple TV+ in August of 2020, is about a football coach named Ted who heads to the United Kingdom to save a failing soccer team. Sudeikis, however, created the award-winning character before the show was even in the works. The We're The Millers star told Entertainment Weekly that he had to make a persona for an NBC sports commercial back in 2013.

"The whole story of that first commercial was that he gets hired to coach a professional soccer team and he gets fired three days later," the 45-year-old revealed. "We just thought it would be funny if he wasn't cynical or angry about that, that he just loved the experience and he loved London and he loved soccer, and that he brought that home with him." Jason also shared the reason he stuck with the character after so long. "I was like, 'Okay, there might be something more here.' Because it's a really fun character to play, a really fun character to write for, and a really fun prism to see the world through," he said, expressing how the character has stuck with him ever since the 2013 commercial.
