James Cordon is a pro at getting legendary stars to appear on his shows - remember when he persuaded Paul McCartney to appear on Carpool Karaoke? But The Late Late Show host's most recent stunt is one of those magical TV moments that will probably go down in history. Read on for all of the details.
When James Corden's crew had a billion-dollar business proposal for Oprah, he decided to give the 67-year-old starlet a call and pitch the idea. "I don't think it's her number, though," Corden humbly said of the digits in his phonebook. Would the talk show queen really give him a personal number rather than an assistant's? For a moment, it seemed that we'd never find out since the call went straight to voicemail. But then the unthinkable happened - her majesty called back. "Is that Oprah?" James nervously asked as the phone said No Caller ID.
"It's Oprah," Winfrey responded with a somewhat on-point British accent. "I'm calling because we think we've had an idea that could make you billions of dollars," James said, eliciting a chuckle from Oprah. In case you didn't know, the iconic figure already has a net worth of about $3.5 billion, according to Celebrity Net Worth, so we don't think she's really scrambling for more.
"And we think it's so good we couldn't wait to tell you," Cordon continued. "This comes from Guillermo, our drummer... We think you should launch a range of O-Tels." Oprah seemed confused by the proposition, so James went ahead and gave some more details on the hotel business idea. And once Winfrey had a better understanding of the proposal, she heartily agreed. "Absolutely! Absolutely!" Watch the hilarious clip for yourself above.
The award-winning star already has a lot on her plate; she recently announced the launch of a multiplatform lifestyle brand with Hearst Magazines. So we're thinking part of that deal could include the Hotel O-Tel... giving proper compensation to Cordon and his crew, of course. Want to see more funny moments between James and Oprah?
