HBO Max has just released the official trailer for season 2 of the comedy, Hacks, and we are already laughing in our seats (or in our beds where we'll be watching). The hilarious comedy is back for a new season after receiving major praise from season one - and a few Emmy nominations and wins along the way. The show is returning to the streamer on May 12, so let's take a look at what we know thus far!

Starring the hilarious duo Jean Smart as Deborah Vance and Hannah Einbinder as Ava, the couple is back and even more hysterical in season 2, believe it or not. For those who didn't catch season 1 of Hacks, first of all, make sure to spend countless hours binging the show, and second of all, let's give you a little background. The first season, which premiered just about a year ago, follows the relationship between Smart and Einbinder and their comical adventures together. A dark yet loving relationship forms between the young comedy writer, Einbinder, and her mentor, Smart, an iconic Las Vegas comic. Still, things get complicated when Smart loses her Vegas residency at the end of the first season.

Picking up right where it leaves off, the upcoming season will follow Einbinder and Smart traveling across the country to workshop her newest, latest, and greatest act. "I know I bombed at my show," Deborah begins in the trailer. "On this tour, it's all about back to basics." As it turns out, the role of comedian Deborah Vance has been manifested by Smart for years. "I wanted to be a stand-up comic when I was a kid. When I was in middle school, I went to a costume party as Phyllis Diller," she told Town & Country. "When my agent sent me the script, I said, 'You've ticked off that box on my bucket list.'" Lucky for us, she's one of the most entertaining comedians we've seen!

The critically acclaimed show was even renewed for a second season before the first season ended; now, that's when you know. In addition to Smart and Einbinder returning, some of our favorite cast members will also star in season two, including Carl Clemons-Hopkin, Christopher McDonald, and Rose Abdoo - plus some new faces! So make sure to tune into Hacks for its on May 12. And in the meantime, check out these other HBO Max gems...
