Get ready to laugh because George Lopez is coming back to our screens. And this time, it's a family affair: the critically-acclaimed comedian will star alongside daughter and actress Mayan Lopez. Here's everything you need to know.
It's not the first time the father-daughter duo is set to hit our screens. Mayan appeared on her dad's hit ABC sitcom over a decade ago, marking the now 25-year-old's acting debut. But this next role will be way more than a one-time gig if all goes as planned. Mayan and George are coming together for a multi-cam comedy titled Lopez vs. Lopez. The show will follow a working-class family and all of their dysfunctions, relationship troubles, and the happiness in between.
George and Mayan are not the only talented stars on board. Comedy writer Debby Wolfe and renowned producer Bruce Helford are set to write and executive produce the series. And following the news about NBC's pilot order of Lopez vs. Lopez, the actors shared their excitement on social media.
"I TOLD YOU WE HAVE SOMETHING SPECIAL COMING YOUR WAY!! @mayanlopez AND I ARE COMING WITH THE [fire emoji]," George wrote to fans. "WE GOT THE BAND BACK TOGETHER TO PUT OUT A HIT!! STAY TUNED AND THANK YOU ALL FOR THE LOVE AND SUPPORT." The caps lock was a bit overwhelming but we'll let it slide because, TBH, we couldn't be more excited, either.
Taking to the Gram as well, Mayan shared how this is a dream come true. "This has been a dream of a lifetime to collaborate and be a part of this incredible team that have made this all possible," she said. "A special thank you to [Debby Wolfe] because without your writing and vision this would never have existed." Lopez then gave a shout-out to her dad that's got us feeling all the feels.
"I have always dreamed about working side by side with dad," Mayan wrote. "And now we get to bring our story, dysfunction, and laughter to the screen. First the pilot... next to series!!" Retweet!
