When Schitt’s Creek co-creator Dan Levy signed a multiple-year overall film and TV deal with Netflix, we knew we were going to see headlines about exciting projects. His first project with Netflix remains untitled, but he just dropped a few details for fans who are eager to know more about it...
If you thought we were talking about Levy's long-rumored Schitt's Creek movie, you're in for a surprise! Although a follow-up to the popular Emmy-winning series is TBD, he recently gave The Hollywood Reporter the inside scoop on his inspiration behind his upcoming rom-com, saying, "It's a love story about friendship." We're officially intrigued. He talked to the magazine about how his music inspires his film writing, and the many challenges he faced as he took on his first solo film screenplay.
The Emmy winner clarified that his project was in its early stages and was still being developed - but made sure to share his excitement about finishing the script for the upcoming film! "It was really rewarding and, in the end, so exhilarating. I love what I wrote, which is a very rare thing," he said. So, although there's still a lot of work to be done before we get to see Levy's film on the big screen. Nonetheless, he has "high hopes" for how it will turn out.
During the interview, Levy revealed some of the themes that will be included in his movie. "It ended up having more to do with friendships in your 30s than actual romantic relationships," he shared. "What would a love story look like if it was really about a group of friends in their mid-30s? The clarity that comes with age and the time you've spent with these people. There's romance in the movie, obviously, but really, it's a love story about friendship." We don't know about you, but we can't wait to see how it will turn out! And we're pretty sure the folks over at Netflix feel the same way. "Dan Levy is an incredible all-around creative talent, who thoughtfully approaches every story with a meaningful perspective," gushed Netflix head of global film Scott Stuber and head of global TV Bela Bajaria in a joint statement. "His work on Schitt's Creek charmed audiences around the world, and we're thrilled to partner and create new films and shows with Dan." Be sure to stay tuned for more on Levy's project!
