Get ready for some serious laughs because another Amazon comedy is coming our way. But don't expect LOL-worthy moments at all times - the new project is a dark comedy with "savage humor." From casting to producers, here's everything we know about The Consultant.
The show was recently ordered to series by Amazon and MGM and is based on the horror fiction book by Bentley Little, The Consultant. Viewers will enjoy a workplace satire that follows the dark turn of events at a company after a consultant is hired. The new boss develops an unhealthy dynamic with the employees, who will go as far as needed to survive in the job.
Television writer Tony Basgallop, known for The Servant, is the creator and showrunner of The Consultant. He will serve as executive producer with director Matt Shakeman, Steve Stark, Andrew Mittman, and Christoph Waltz - who is set to star as the protagonist. The 65-year-old actor is known for his part as Hans Landa in Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds and later worked with the renowned director again for 2012's Django Unchained.
"It's a huge honor to be working with the talents of Matt Shakman and Christoph Waltz on this project that I developed with the team at 1.21 and Toluca Pictures," Basgallop said. "And with MGM and Amazon Studios, we've found partners who are not afraid to be bold and explosive."
Lucky for us, the producers promise equal parts thrill and humor. "The Consultant is a biting workplace satire that is as suspenseful as it is darkly funny," said the president of scripted television at MGM, Michael Wright. He added, "Tony has created something truly unexpected with this series, and we are thrilled to partner with Amazon and this brilliant creative team to bring the story to life for audiences around the world."
"With The Consultant, Tony Basgallop has created something fearless with equal parts savage humor and delicious thrills," echoed Vernon Sanders, Amazon Studios' head of television.
