Billy Eichner is making movie and comedy-history with his latest project. The 42-year-old actor will co-write, executive produce, and star in the upcoming romantic comedy Bros. According to Universal Pictures, the film is "the first romantic comedy from a major studio about two gay men maybe, possibly, probably stumbling towards love. Maybe. They're both very busy."

While we know Eichner is set to play one of the two men, we have yet to hear who will be his co-star. Billy, who rose to fame with the Emmy-nominated comedic game show Billy on the Street, is no stranger to Hollywood sets. The comedic icon previously starred in Neighbors 2, Sleeping With Other People, and What Happens in Vegas, to name a few. More recently, he acted in American Crime Story.

Eichner is over-the-moon for the new motion picture. "I honestly can't believe it... move over Julia Roberts, there's a new rom com QUEEN in town!" the producer tweeted. The celebrations continued on Instagram, where he announced, "I'M MAKING A MOVIE!!!! Coming to a theater near you Aug 12, 2022! In shocking news, BROS will be the first from com about gay men ever produced by a major studio and, apparently, I'm the first openly gay man to ever write and star in their own studio film. Only took 100 years! THANKS HOLLYWOOD!!!"

Eichner has been working on this project for quite some time and spoke with People magazine about his casting vision for the movie back in 2019. "I look forward to making that movie and finding as many openly LGBT actors as possible in gay roles, in straight roles," he explained. "We not only need to start supporting LGBT actors theoretically, but we actually need to start casting them as well."

British director and screenwriter Nicholas Stoller is set to co-write alongside Eichner, as well as, direct the film. Judd Apatow, the writer/producer of The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Funny People, and Trainwreck, will also produce the film. It's already looking to be quite the comedic power team!
