Amy Poehler and her Duncanville castmate Ty Burrell recently sat down to discuss the animated series' upcoming return. Plus - a Parks and Recreation reunion. But it's not exactly what you might expect. Here are all of the details...
Amy voices adolescent boy Duncan in Duncanville while Ty plays his dad, Jack. "Well, you know I actually relate a lot to a teenage boy, which I don't know what that says about me," Poehler quipped. "I've often played characters that are like 'little engines that could' that really drive things, and we really wanted to have fun playing a character that didn't do any of that."
The animated sitcom follows Duncan Harris, an average 15-year-old, as he is constantly one step away from trouble. While Amy is less familiar with playing this type of character, Ty, on the other hand, is quite comfortable with the role he voices for the series. And that has a lot to do with the actor's previous on-screen persona: Modern Family's quirky dad Mr. Dunphy. "Phil Dunphy was actually written for me, whatever that means, sad as that might be," Burrell joked.
Then Amy revealed arguably the most exciting news yet: some of the comedic icon's former castmates have been invited to appear on Duncanville. Well, at least their voices have. Poehler revealed that Parks and Recreation stars Nick Offerman, Aubrey Plaza, and Adam Scott were all invited for guest roles on the hit show.
"We really are genuine, loving fans of each other, so we try whenever we can to find ways to work together," Poehler shared. "When we put the call out to Aubrey and Adam and Nick, they said yes right away, which was great." But there was one obstacle in the way of the much-longed-for Parks and Rec reunion.
"We weren't ever in the same room because there are a few people that have restraining orders out against me," Amy admitted. "They're all different flavors." Duncanville's special two-episode Season 2 premiere is set to air on Fox Sunday, May 23, 2021. So get ready because you won't want to miss out on what's sure to be an unforgettable reunion this season! You can watch (or re-watch) some of Season 1's episodes on Fox's official website.
