When you hear 'Rainn Wilson,' chances are you're thinking of the hilarious guy from The Office. The actor behind the ridiculous yet iconic Dwight Shrute character became a legendary name in comedy. Now, however, it seems Rainn is ready to shed all those name-based associations, radically changing his title to something with a more profound message. Have any ideas what it might be? You're probably way off...
For this grand name-change announcement, The Office star teamed up with Arctic Humanity, an environmental agency for which he is a board member. In a video posted to their Twitter page, Wilson explained the reasons for this drastic decision. "With the help of my scientist friends at Arctic Basecamp, I've changed my name to Rainnfall Heat Wave Extreme Winter Wilson," he declared. Before the inevitable accusations arose, Rainn clarified, "this is not a joke. I am as serious as the melting Arctic, which amplifies global risks, including extreme weather events around the globe," he explained. "I'm hoping this name change brings attention to this growing... er, melting issue."
"We need world leaders at COP27 to take notice and take action. The Arctic is melting at millions of liters per second, yet this problem can't seem to make a name for itself, so it's up to us to make a name for it," he continued. He then invited his fans to join him in the fight against climate change by changing their names through the Arctic Basecamp name-changer service (ArcticRiskName.org). "If enough of us do this, then maybe COP27 will be where our world leaders sit up and notice Arctic risks and introduce a solution," he encouraged.
Join us and @rainnwilson in bringing attention to the melting issue. We need world leaders to take action at @COP27P Rapid #Arctic warming brings huge global risks. Yet this problem can’t seem to make a name for itself, so we’ll make a name for it…— Arctic Humanity at Risk Basecamp (@ArcticBasecamp) November 9, 2022

Wilson confirmed he is also convincing his famous friends to join in on the "cheap little stunt to help save planet earth." The dream list includes "Cardi The Arctic B Melting, Jack Black Carbon is Killing Us, Amy Poehler Bears are Endangered, and Harrison Why Not Drive an Electric? Ford." While these changes are unlikely legally binding, we love to see a celebrity using his star power for good! Stay tuned.
