Each year (other than the past two, thanks to social distancing), the first Monday of May is known as being one of the biggest days for fashion. The Met Gala is attended by the most elite celebs and socialists that grace the red carpet with jaw-dropping outfits. Thanks to the A-listers and their fashion designers' creativity, the outfits can sometimes be the victim of some hilarious jokes. Here are the funniest memes that have come out of the 2022 Met Ball.
Held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the theme this year was "In America: An Anthology of Fashion: Gilded Glamour." And let's just say some stars were right on the money, including one of the co-hosts of the event, Blake Lively, who showed up in a gold gown. Halfway down the red carpet, the actress (with help, of course) shifted her princess-style dress into an aqua blue color. While fashion fanatics adored the look, jokesters on Twitter saw it as a perfect outfit to be the butt of many jokes. "petition to replace the Statue of Liberty with @blakelively," one user-tested. But Lively's outfit wasn't the only meme that compared a celeb's outfit to an object. One person teased Gigi Hadid's red jumpsuit, which she paired with a matching puffy coat, joking, "she literally wore her sofa." LOL.
Of course, the Kardashians clan was also in attendance this year, and as usual, many eyes were on them. Especially Kylie Jenner, who sported a backward baseball cap to the fundraising event. The reality TV star was dressed by Off-White, who put Kylie in a white gown topped with a sheer top and even a veil... so naturally, people on Twitter instantly thought she looked like a bride.
Many fans of the star-studded event were unhappy with how many attendees were not on theme. "I just feel like the met gala should be conditional upon arrival, like an outfit check at the door, and if ur not on theme ur getting sent home! Sorry the local mall is down the street let's try again," user @karenyhan poked fun. But honestly, without them, we wouldn't have so many memes to laugh at! Till next year...
