Kevin Hart just went from 5'4" to Comedy Giant. On Sunday, Hart received the GOAT Award at the 2020 MTV Film & TV Awards. The golden popcorn figure was presented by fellow comedian Chelsea Handler, who gave him a sprinkle of light roasting too.
Held virtually this year, the production was pushed to the limits of green screen technology. As host Vanessa Hudgens rolled out awards, the GOATs (Greatest of All Time) of movies and TV shows from the past 4 decades were broadcasted. Nominees had to have been on the edge of their couches; we sure were!
Leading up to the big reveal, Chelsea declared that Hart "Hits comedy home runs every time he steps up," she continued, "Not literally. He can't really step up to any plate because he's just so compact." She said that despite his size, Kevin has "Broken box office records," a success that has been exemplified by his winnings.
Upon the announcement, Kevin was virtually shown in a highlight reel from his recent movies and stand-up specials before remotely accepting the award. Hart then thanked his fans, wife, and children for supporting him throughout his nearly 20 years of stand-up comedy.
In his acceptance speech, Hart said, "Thank you all for supporting me, loving me, and holding me down. I love you, I appreciate you...I do it for you guys; this is big." With a beaming smile from ear to ear, Kevin ended his speech, "5 Foot, 4, and now a giant." A giant in the world of comedy he is, with a golden GOAT Award to boot!
This win came to Kevin after he managed to film and broadcast his 2020 Netflix special, Zero F**ks Given, from inside his home. It featured Hart performing in his pajamas and Jordans. Despite the different than usual stage setup, he managed to make the best out of this online-instead-of-on-stage restrictions.
