He may be royal, but Prince Louis was like any other baby. He burped, learned to crawl, and had his first words. But after BBC dove deeper into the life of the famous child, viewers faced a surprising discovery.

Family of 5

The British royal family is one of the most well-known families in the entire world. No matter where in the world someone is, people will likely know who they are. Prince William's family is no different.

Prince William and Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton have three children together. Their first child, George, was born in July 2013, and their second child, Charlotte, was born in May 2015. Lastly, Kate and William had their third child, a boy named Louis, who was born in April 2018.

The Prince's Welcoming

When Prince Louis was born, they pulled out all of the stops. Gun salutes were shot off at Hyde Park and the Tower of London. The bells at Westminster Abbey rang to celebrate the arrival of the baby boy. The entire country joined in the festivities.

They announced his full name, Louis Arthur Charles, only four days after being born. He also made a record right from the very start. He was the heaviest baby born who would be heir to the throne in over 100 years at eight pounds seven ounces. Louis' official title is His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge.

Future King?

Due to his royal status, there is a chance that one day Louis may sit on the throne as the King of England. However, the chances of this are pretty slim. First, the throne has to be passed to his dad, Prince William. Then, after his father, the throne would go to his older siblings, George and Charlotte.

This is the line of succession before George and Charlotte have their own kids. Before George was born, Prince Harry would have been next in the line for the throne after Prince William. Except, once William had kids, his brother moved down in the line of succession. One day that will also happen to Prince Louis.

Busy Baby

Once Prince Louis was born, he immediately had a full calendar. All of his family members wanted to say hello and greet the newborn. Many members of the royal family stopped by Kensington Palace, including his great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II and his grandfather's wife, Camilla Parker-Bowles.

He also got a visit from his aunt Pippa Middleton. Only a month later was Princess Charlotte's third birthday. Prince Charles visited his grandson for the first time that very day. Kate took a beautiful photo of Charlotte kissing Prince Louis' forehead. What a heartwarming gesture from his older sister!

Pleasantly Surprised

But Charlotte's birthday was not the only big royal celebration to occur shortly after Louis' birth. His Uncle Harry was to marry Meghan Markle on May 19, 2018. After meeting on a blind date, Prince Harry and the former Suits actress completely fell in love with each other.

After a year of dating, Prince Harry proposed to Markle. A year later, they were to be wed, except their wedding would be missing one important family member. Newborn Prince Louis was not in attendance for the big event. Understandably, the baby stayed at home.

In Case of Emergency

Louis was christened at The Chapel Royal at St. James' Palace by the Archbishop of Canterbury. They followed tradition closely at the ceremony. They used water from the River Jordan, and he was christened in the replica of the royal christening gown. The original had been retired for preservation in 2004.

In case anything bad were to ever happen to his parents, they named six friends and family members to be his godparents. They included Nicholas van Cutsem, Guy Pelly, Harry Aubrey-Fletcher, Lady Laura Meade, Hannah Gillingham Carter, and Lucy Middleton. Hopefully, they will never be needed to step in. This is more for just in case!

His First Public Appearance

His christening was his first public event. There were many photographs taken of the family and the newborn baby. Everyone in the world wanted to see Prince Louis! Not only was he christened, but the day marked a special moment where William and Kate were photographed in public with all of their children.

Newlyweds Harry and Meghan and many other family members attended the ceremony. They also reused one of the tiers from William and Kate's wedding for the Christening cake. What a special moment for everyone. Unfortunately, his great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II was not able to attend.

Back to Her Roots

Kate Middleton kept busy while raising her third child. Right around the time of Louis' first birthday, the RHS Back to Nature Garden was opened in its new permanent home. The Duchess co-designed the gardens as a place for children to play and for visitors to be surrounded by nature.

Kate said, "In recent years, I have focused much of my work on the early years, and how instrumental they are for outcomes later in life. I believe that spending time outdoors when we are young can play a role in laying the foundations for children to become happy, healthy adults." Prince Louis is lucky to have a mom like her.

The entire family came to congratulate their mother and experience the garden that she co-designed for the Chelsea Flower Show. The family was photographed playing in the water, collecting sticks, and enjoying nature. There was one photograph of Prince Louis on a rope swing with his dad holding onto him.

The "garden has a natural woodland feel and contains lots of unique design features to inspire families to get outside and explore nature together," wrote the official Twitter account for the royal family. While Prince Louis was definitely walking for this outing, he was still not talking.

The Duchess co-designed the garden alongside landscape architects Andrée David and Adam White. The importance of nature and all of its benefits is obviously important to Kate, and hopefully, she will be able to pass these traits on to her children.

Prince Louis certainly had a fun time exploring everything the garden had to offer. He was seen picking up rocks. He also took a stick and started running with it, with Prince William closely following behind him. There was so much for the youngster to explore and see. Could his first word have something to do with nature?

Looking Back

It seems likely that something with nature could be the answer. Kate Middleton revealed some information about her then-20-month-old when she visited the Royal Horticultural Society in Wisley, Surrey. She was visiting for Family Action and was talking with a fellow mother named Sarah.

The two talked about Kate's children, and she divulged a few adorable facts about her youngest baby. Sarah told Elle, "She was just saying that her little boy Louis loves to smell flowers and he enjoys being out in the garden." It looks like Prince Louis shares similar interests with his mother.

A Royal New Role

During Christmas time, Kate took on a new royal role. She would act as the royal patron of the charity Family Action. Family Action provides support for families in need, including financially and with issues surrounding mental health. She was visiting the Peterley Manor Farm in Buckinghamshire as part of her duties.

Queen Elizabeth II also held this position previously. When Kate visited Peterley Manor Farm, she was there to help children pick out Christmas trees for their classrooms and to make decorations for them. It was an adorable activity, except the Duchess let something slip...

An Innocent Mistake

At the Peterley Manor Farm, a little kid was trying to get the Duchess's attention. He kept holding his hand up and shouted, "me, me!" repeatedly. She bent down to be closer to him and then told him, "You remind me of my little Louis, he keeps saying, 'me, me, me.' And he wants to come everywhere with me!"

This chat turned into a news frenzy: it was the first time it was publicly acknowledged that Louis had begun to talk. The media was surprised that Kate had shared that personal story because usually, the royal family doesn't divulge such details that freely.

A Very Berry Christmas

In winter 2019, a special on BBC titled A Berry Royal Christmas aired. It featured the legendary Mary Berry as she spent time with Prince William and Kate Middleton at the charities they support. The one-off special obviously also included Mary cooking some of her favorite Christmas recipes.

Dame Mary Berry has been a staple in kitchens for decades. She started her career on the television show Afternoon Plus, and from there, her career flourished. She has written over 80 cookbooks and an autobiography. She was made a Dame in 2020. A "berry" impressive resume. So, was this finally the hint to Louis' first word?

A Sweet Surprise

Kate and William are big fans of The Great British Bake Off. Mary was one of the original hosts, starring and judging the famous baking series from 2009 to 2016. She became a staple of British television alongside her co-host, Paul Hollywood. So, it only makes sense that Kate loves Mary and has a few of her cookbooks.

Apparently, William and Kate aren't the only fans of the baking legend. She has another one, who is rather small. Kate revealed that "one of Louis' first words was Mary, because right at his height are all my cooking books in the kitchen." But that's not all the Duchess let slip.

Famous Faces

Throughout the special, the Duke and Duchess visited four different charities with Mary Berry. One of the places they went to was The Passage, which is the largest resource center for those who are homeless or home-insecure in London. They also faced off in a good-old-fashioned bake-off, with Nadiya Hussain joining in.

During the special, Kate told Mary, "… Children are really fascinated by faces, and your face is all over your cooking books, and he would say, 'That's Mary Berry.' So he would definitely recognize you if he saw you." That must mean that Kate is cooking a lot at home. What kind of things does she make?

Baking With Mary

Mary Berry asked the Duchess if she baked at home with her kids. The Duchess said she did and often used Mary's recipes. For Kate, it is all about creativity and having fun. She noted, "Yes, I really enjoy it. Again, for them to be creative, for them to try and be as independent as possible with it."

Mary is a British baking icon. Her recipes are iconic, from her Sunshine Cake to her Victoria Sponge Sandwich. It must have been nerve-wracking for big fans Kate and William to bake alongside her during the special. They better have made sure they had no soggy bottoms!

Lady Di's Influence

William's mother, Princess Diana, was an inspiration to many. While she may have left the world too soon, her legacy has made a lasting impact on people worldwide and a big one on her eldest son. Prince William had an honest conversation with Mary Berry during the special about how she has influenced him.

He told Mary that his relationship with his mom has a massive influence on the way that he parents. He said, "[Diana] realized that it was very important when you grow up - especially in the life that we grew up - that you realize that life happens beyond palace walls, and that you see real people struggling with real issues."

Her Lasting Legacy

Diana was a fashion icon to some, but to William, she was an icon for how to lead life. William explained his mom "liked to challenge the social norms about charities and about disadvantages and vulnerable people." He has tried to take these lessons with him as he is now a father to three wonderful children.

Unfortunately, when William was 15 years old, his mother tragically passed away in a car accident. To this day, the entire world mourns her absence. Even though she is not alive to see her grandchildren, her spirit continues to live on through each one of them.

Teaching His Own Kids

Using the methods he learned from his mother, William likes to talk about real-life events when he talks with his children. For example, he does not shy away from topics like homelessness with them. He said, "whenever we see someone who is sleeping rough on the street, I talk about it and I point it out, and I explain."

William also told stories about how George and Charlotte like to ask him about what's happening in the world during their commute to school. Diana's traits as a mother are now being passed down through her son. The BBC special also revealed parts of Kate's past.

When the group was visiting a dry bar in Liverpool, the Duchess got to show off some of her old skills from her university days. The Brink is a bar set up by Action on Addiction that serves non-alcoholic cocktails. Kate was serving up some cocktails as they discussed her university days.

Kate said about the experience, "It reminded me of my university days when I did a bit of waitressing." When Mary asked if she was good at her job, the Duchess quickly responded, "No - I was terrible." Kate studied art history at the University of St. Andrews and was waitressing to make extra money.

Behind the Smiles

Mary Berry had a few words of praise to give to the Duke and Duchess during A Berry Royal Christmas. She was so impressed with how much they do with their charity work. As she put it, they are not just there to smile for the camera. They truly dedicate themselves to the charities they are supporting.

Mary said, "[William and Kate] don't just arrive and shake a few hands, make a few smiles and a speech, they want to get involved, and they want to see what they can do." She continued, "And it isn't just one visit, they come back again and ask for the results, and they remember who they spoke to last time. I think that's remarkable."

A Pigeon Couple

Mary Berry has only had nice things to say about the royal couple. She even called them a pigeon couple because of how they are constantly touching one another and are meant to mate for life. She said to YOU Magazine, "I was so impressed. They really are a pigeon couple."

She continued, "It was just lovely observing them for those three days. When they are together, he's constantly touching her arm and looking over at her smiling, and she's the same with him. It was very sweet to see because it was so natural." But how did their romance even begin?

A Love Story for the Books

Their love story is something out of the storybooks. They were both attending St. Andrews University in Scotland and would often bump into each other. Kate would even share her notes with William if he missed class! Then, she walked the runway in a school fashion show - and that's when she caught William's eye.

Everyone seems to agree that Prince George and Princess Charlotte look exactly like their father. A friend told PEOPLE, "Everyone always comments on how Louis is the spitting image of Kate. She loves it and thinks it's very sweet - she often jokes that he's the only one of her kids who actually looks like her!"

Kate strives to be a loving and loyal mother, but because of her royal status, she also has many duties to attend to. Since she has such a packed schedule, she will often have to leave the kids to complete her work. Except, the Duchess is never without her kids completely.

However, Kate made a remark during a tour in Northern Ireland in 2019 that got fans of the royal family wondering what would happen next. Upon meeting a 5-month-old baby, the Duchess told the baby's father, "He's gorgeous. It makes me feel broody." Is baby number four a possibility?
