Jennifer Coolidge is an icon. She is adored and beloved everywhere from her fan-favorite roles in the American Pie films as Stifler’s Mom and Legally Blonde. Now she can also add Emmy Award Winner to her resume after winning the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. The thing about icons is that you cannot rush them off stage.

The producers of the 74th Emmy Awards show did not realize that. After Grey’s Anatomy star Chandra Wilson, and The Good Doctor star, Freddie Highmore, presented Coolidge with her award, she began her speech in the best way possible. It was with her nasal breathiness, “Hey, hi, wow.” Immediately, the star-studded audience went wild. The White Lotus star stumbled over her words as she was seemingly unable to grasp the fact that she had just won. She exclaimed, “What a night!” She acknowledged her fellow nominees. Some of whom included her co-stars, like Alexandra Daddario, Connie Britton, Natasha Rothwell, and Sydney Sweeney.

Continuing with her speech, she said, “I just wanted to say… I took a lavender bath tonight,” to which an uproar of laughter came from the crowd. She told everyone she was having difficulty speaking because she swelled up due to this lavender bath. Almost a minute into the speech, she realized that she had a piece of paper in her hand with names to thank. She started listing names, and that is when the producers began their famous ending music. It is typically intended to make stars wrap up their speeches and exit the stage unless that star is Jennifer Coolidge. She continued to list names, so an instrumental version of “Hit the Road Jack” played. What did Coolidge do? She began to dance! The crowd went crazy for her. Everyone claps along, and some even dance as she eventually exits the stage.

This was Coolidge’s first-ever Emmy nomination and win. White Lotus took home five awards that night. They nabbed awards for Supporting Actor, Directing and Writing in a Limited Series, and Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series. The show is set in a luxurious Hawaiian resort, where the secrets of the staff and guests cause things to go awry over a week. Coolidge will be starring in the upcoming Legally Blonde 3, slated for release in 2023. Hopefully, the Emmy producers learned at least one thing – no one plays Jennifer Coolidge off-stage.
