Jenna Ortega stepped into her very own Wednesday Addams fantasy when she arrived at the 2023 SAG Awards. The 20-year-old actress shared an awkward first meeting with co-star Paul Mescal, but that didn't stop her from admiring his talent and success during their momentary encounter.
"He was like, 'Oh, Hi! Nice to meet you. I'm Paul.' And I was nervous, I kind of couldn't look him in the eye so I fear that it was bit like, 'Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,'" Ortega recalled during Thursday's episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Little did they know they were about to embark on an even more wild ride together when they co-presented an award at the SAG Awards - one that left them completely stumped for words as soon as they reached the podium. After a few tense seconds of silence between them, Plaza exclaimed: “I don’t know why they paired us up together!” To which Ortega replied jokingly: “I know we have nothing in common."
That's when inspiration struck - both Jenna and Aubrey simultaneously recited from The Addams Family: "We should find the people who did this; And curse their families and watch as misfortune follows their bloodline for the next seven generations." It seems that these two finally found something to bond over! Fans of both actresses had been clamoring for some sort of collaboration between them ever since Jenna starred in Wednesday last year - so naturally, everyone heaped praise upon this perfect pairing onstage at the SAG Awards.

But there's no need to wait too long if you're hoping for more mischief from these two strong female personalities! This weekend sees Jenna take on hosting duties on Saturday Night Live alongside musical guest King Princess - and if we're lucky, maybe we'll get another empowering team-up between our favorites duo (or maybe even a triple feature with Mescal thrown into the mix?). Either way, it seems there could be plenty of hilarity on the cards...and perhaps a chance for many more awkward encounters with talented stars yet to come!
