James Corden and Ariana Grande Team up for Hilarious 'Hairspray' Inspired Song
| LAST UPDATE 06/17/2021
Excited about life slowly going back to normal after over a year of pandemic regulations? You're not the only one. In fact, James Corden and Ariana Grande are so thrilled that they wrote a song about it! Inspired by the legendary Broadway musical Hairspray, this is one track you don't want to miss.
On June 16, Ariana Grande gave fans a heads-up that she'd be appearing on The Late Late Show with James Corden for a skit. "There may even be a very special, heart attack provoking cameo made by a Tony Award winning friend of mine," the starlet added. Who exactly did this pal turn out to be?
Oh, only Marissa Jaret Winokur, the actress who first played Tracy Turnblad in the musical comedy Hairspray. A fitting guest star for the hilarious skit where James and Ariana are seen celebrating that there are No Lockdowns Anymore in a parody song inspired by the award-winning Broadway show.
The music video begins with Cordon exiting his home in a bathrobe singing, "Woke up today / Feeling okay / Wow this is new." We feel ya, James. "Turning off Zoom after fifteen long months stuck on mute / No lockdowns anymore," he continues. Talk about relatable. And then things get taken up a notch when Ariana appears on screen accompanied by her unforgettable voice.
The pop star is quickly joined by Marissa Jaret Winokur. "It's been so long since I've put on my shoes / So oh, oh, let's hit the club / Or get drunk and get matching tattoos," the talented gals sing together. Some other highlights? James revealed that he's been watching Netflix during work hours just like the rest of us. But don't take our word on how amazing this bop is - check out the hilarious clip for yourself above.
Of course, it's hardly a shocker that our Prom king and the Grammy-winning artist could give us such a memorable performance. In fact, it's far from the first time that they team up to grace our screens (and ears) with musical beauty. Yes, we're talking about that time the two drove around Los Angeles laughing and singing for an exceptional Carpool Karaoke segment. May they never stop blessing us with chuckles and tunes!
