Groupies, Selfies and Secret After-Parties: 29+ Celebrities Who Doubled as Super Fans
| LAST UPDATE 10/11/2021
Everyone has an idol, no matter how rich and famous you are. Even our favorite celebrities have favorite celebrities of their own. And just like most of us are guilty of losing our cool when we meet our favorite stars, not all of these celebs play it so cool either.
It's actually quite refreshing to see that our idols get starstruck when they encounter their idols too. In fact, it makes us warm to them more. So, here is a list of 29+ celebrity interactions where your favorite stars just couldn't help fangirl.
Jennifer Lawrence and Bill Murray
The Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence revealed in 2015 exactly how she came to meet her idol, Bill Murray. She claimed she had always been a massive fan of Billy Murray for a long time and was still trying to meet him somehow.
Her methods weren't exactly the most elegant. She told stories of how she would "send emails to Woody [Harrelson] - mostly when I was drunk - of things I always wanted to say to Bill." Word must have reached Bill because she eventually got to meet him in 2015 at Comic-Con.
Camila Cabello and Emilia Clarke
Emilia Clarke is perhaps best known for her role as Khaleesi in Game of Thrones, having played the integral character right from the beginning of one of the biggest shows in television history. As it turns out, other celebs are just as big a fan of the show as we are.
Camila Cabello did what just about every major fan of a show has done at least once in their life: binge-watch all eight seasons of Game of Thrones in a month. You can just imagine how excited she was when in 2019, she got to meet her idol, the Mother of Dragons on the Graham Norton Show.
Emma Stone and the Spice Girls
Everyone knows the Spice Girls, and no matter the time and place, can likely belt out the lyrics to '90s hit single Wannabe. Much like Camila Cabello is a fan of other celebrities' work, Emma Stone is a massive fan of the Spice Girls.
While most fans kept it simple with posters and a shirt or two, Emma Stone went the extra mile. Back when she was still a schoolgirl, she asked her teacher to call her Emma after the girl group's eponymous member. That's right; Emma Stone's name is actually just a homage to her favorite member of the Spice Girls, with her real name being 'Emily.'
Simone Biles and Zac Efron
A massive name in the Olympic world, multi-Olympic Gold Medallist Simone Biles, experienced one of the most defining moments in her life back in 2016, and it wasn't winning her fourth gold medal. She instead got to meet her lifetime celebrity crush.
Admittedly, she's not the only one to be head-over-heels for Zac Efron, but she certainly stands out from the rest for having the actor fly halfway across the globe to surprise her in person. Almost passing out from the surprise, she tweeted after their meeting, "Just call me Mrs. Efron now @ZacEfron" out of pure joy.
Adele and Jennifer Aniston
One of the more awkward meetings on this list, Adele can boast a meeting with her celebrity idol that very few can. While most people who end up meeting their idol at a special event simply ask for a hug and picture with them, these two found themselves in a very different situation.
While Adele enjoyed her time at such an event, she ended up heading to the ladies room, as one naturally would after enjoying a couple of drinks. After getting past her security guards, she found herself in a cubicle alongside the one and only Jennifer Aniston, and they had a little conversation through the cubicle wall. Not the most elegant of meetings, but certainly a funny one.
Selena Gomez and Jennifer Aniston
Yet another one featuring everyone's favorite Rachel, Selena Gomez recounts her story of meeting Jennifer Aniston in, once again, the bathroom of some event. This was back when Selena was still a young and budding actress, making this interaction just that bit more painful to learn about.
While attending a Vanity Fair event with her mom, Selena excused herself for the bathroom, and as she walked in, her heart stopped as one of her all-time favorite actresses was just leaving. In her moment of fangirling, she was so overwhelmed that she simply turned tail and ran back to her mom, and only told her now-friend Jennifer about the story much later.
Sophie Turner and Ryan Gosling
Just about every teenage girl and the young woman fell in love with Noah Calhoun in 2004's The Notebook, and Sophie Turner is no exception. So you can imagine the excitement and glee on the Game of Thrones star when she crossed paths with her teenage crush in 2016.
Turning to Instagram to share her excitement and joy, she jokingly commented, "Sorry boys. I'm off the market," as she shared the news that she finally got to meet him. Since then, she has shared the full story about how she came to develop a crush on the blonde heartthrob, and then meet him face-to-face.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill
This is one of the more lighthearted and funny interactions between celebrities on the list and requires a bit of explaining. This meeting isn't their first, as the two actors are actually quite good buddies. This is just another classic example of Leo's famous pranks that he likes to pull in public.
As Jonah Hill roamed around New York City, enjoying some downtime, what he described as an "overzealous fan" suddenly ambushed him and assaulted him with their camera, while he just stood there in horror, taken entirely off guard. After the initial shock passed, he realized that this 'fan' was his comedic pal Leo who decided to have some fun sneaking up on him.
Cardi B and Lady Gaga
Cardi B loves reminding us that she's just "a regular degular shmegular girl from the Bronx," and honestly, it's easy to tell from her interactions with other celebrities. Take, for example, how she reacted to meeting her idol back in 2019, and you'll realize why this rapper is so loved.
Lady Gaga has always been an advocate for being yourself, no matter who you are, and Cardi B herself said that the artist "changed her life" when she was a teenager, teaching her to be herself unapologetically. When she finally got to meet your teenage idol in 2019, there was nothing but excitement and pure joy written all over her face.
Lizzo and Sophie Turner
Pop queen Lizzo may be a massive Game of Thrones fan, but we aren't sure. Let's take a look at her meeting with Sansa Stark and- ah okay, she's definitely a massive fan. When the two crossed paths in the 2019 Video Music Awards, we were greeted with this legendary exchange.
Lizzo, in her beautiful dress and makeup, was starstruck, barely able to explain how excited and happy she was to meet one of her favorite actresses. Sophie Turner herself was just as excited to meet Lizzo, posting on Instagram a picture of the two of them together with the caption "Here are a few of my favorite moments from tonight! #THATSTHETEA #Lizzoisqueen."
Ariana Grande and Jim Carrey
Ariana is as much of a superfan of other celebs as we are when she isn't touring the world to sold-out shows in stadiums and theaters. Jim Carrey has been one of her all-time favorites, and when she finally came face-to-face with him, she had no more tears left to cry.
In their sweet meeting, the only hiccup was an embarrassing mention from her mother, who revealed to the actor that Ariana had a massive crush on him growing up, even mentioning her AOL username "JimCarreyFan42@aol.com", technically making that her first stage name.
Kim Kardashian and Prince
Unfortunately, not all celebrity meetings can be pleasant. It can be incredibly nerve-wracking to embarrass yourself not only in front of thousands but also as one of your idols. This is what happened when Kim K was invited on stage by Prince during a 2011 show.
When Kim was brought onstage, she was so starstruck to be this close to Prince himself, that all she could do was laugh out of nervousness. This took a brutal turn when Prince, unimpressed, quickly told her to "get off" in front of thousands. She later defended herself, claiming that she "wasn't a good dancer."
Billie Eilish and Justin Bieber
Everyone has had embarrassing moments in front of their teenage crush, and Billie Eilish is no different. When just about everyone had a crush on Justin Bieber back in 2014, Billie was no different. Still, no other Belieber can have as much of an embarrassing situation as her.
She finally got to meet him at Coachella 2019, and the first thing the artist did was send her screenshots of DMs she had sent him way back in 2014, reminding her of the crush she had had on him. DMs weren't the only thing to prove her childhood crush, as she had plenty of posters on the wall of him when she was younger.
Chrissy Teigen and Hannah Ferrier
If you've ever wondered what would happen if a superstar and superfan of Bravo were to cross then, worry not, for the answer is quite simple: a LOT of fangirling. In 2018, Chrissy Teigan ran into Hannah Ferrier at Nobu Malibu and positively freaked out from excitement.
"I just saw Hannah from below deck let me tell you, I am shaking," she tweeted soon after her initial sighting. After finally making contact, she realized she wasn't the only one fangirling. She followed up the first tweet with, "So this just happened, and I have never had such a mutual fan-girl experience in my life!!!!!!"
Cristiano Ronaldo and Rihanna
These are both massive names in the celebrity world, but for very different reasons. It's almost surreal seeing these two cross paths, but as it turns out, the soccer superstar is also a Rihanna superfan, so it's no wonder he returned to Portugal, Lisbon, to attend a concert in 2013.
They've come a long way since those days, but it's still jarring to see two young celebrity worlds collide. One thing is for sure: you can find fans of something in every culture, regardless of their background.
Amy Schumer and the Cast of Stranger Things
When Stranger Things debuted in 2016, everyone fell in love with the little bald girl and her circle of strange friends. Their adventures have captivated many. And as we've discovered from others on this list, celebrities aren't excluded from those that love watching a good series. In this instance, we have Amy Schumer.
She finally got to meet the cast and was blown away at first, posting a picture on Instagram with the caption "Ummmmm things got strange #goldenglobes #amyadamsphotobomb." One thing's for sure, and that's that the comedian was not ready to meet some of her favorite young stars, with a reaction that's more befitting someone who just saw one of the show's horrors.
Jenna Dewan Tatum and Paula Abdul
While not many might like Paula Abdul and the comments she makes on the people she votes for in American Idol, others are massive fans of her and her music. Her co-host might not be too fond of her judging ability, but Jenna Dewan Tatum sure is!
Paula herself claimed to have no idea of the impact she had left on Jenna until her then-husband, Channing, approached her and told her that Paula was "the reason she's in this business." Jenna later told her idol that she "always wanted to be you and do 'Cold Hearted Snake.'"
Leslie Jones and Ryan Reynolds
Blake Lively seemingly has it all: Great looks, fantastic wardrobe, and a heartthrob husband that makes almost every girl jealous of you. She's got barely anything to worry about in life, except perhaps one Leslie Jones, who's got one massive crush on Ryan Reynolds.
Leslie is quoted saying, "Let me tell you. This man. Ah, Ryan Reynolds, I love you," as she revealed her celebrity crush. "He and his wife - his cool wife Blake - that's my homegirl. You have to be cool to let somebody just be all on your man like that; you know what I'm saying?" she jokingly said.
Emilia Clarke and Matt LeBlanc
We've had Camila Cabello reveal herself as a massive fan of Game of Thrones and a superfan of Emilia Clarke, but what of the Mother of Dragons herself? Well, Emilia herself is one superfan of the classic show Friends, so you can imagine how happy she was to meet one of her idols.
After her meeting, all she could gush out about the situation online was, "How YOU doin??! Downright GIDDY now!! Bucket list accomplishment already underway with this gem (both in Joey and Matt form)," followed up with a series of hashtags: #Butmattseriouslyillbethereforyouuuuh #dontupposeanyoneknowswherejaniswent? #noshameinthefriendsgameinstaworld.
Drake and Celine Dion
It's hard to imagine a multi-platinum rapper with a career followed by millions of screaming fans as anyone who idolizes another performer as much as Drake idolizes Celine Dion. The two are mutual fans of each other's music, though it's clear Drake is the bigger fan as he claims he was "a year away from getting a Celine tat" upon meeting her.
In response, she invited him over for lunch or dinner and a drink anytime he wants, under the condition that he never gets that tattoo. The two finally met at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards, and have been fast friends ever since.
Britney Spears and Ed O'Neill
Britney Spears is known for many '90s hits as the Princess of Pop. But that doesn't stop her from being a superfan for others. As well-known as she is, there are still some who are entirely clueless when you start humming one of her tunes or show you a picture of Britney.
One of these clueless people is the one and only Ed O'Neill. Britney recognized the Modern Family star at LAX airport and approached him for a picture. He only learned a day later after she excitedly got a picture with him that she was pop superstar Britney Spears.
Carrie Underwood and Post Malone
It's always strange and surreal when worlds collide. You realize that two stars coexist in the same industry, despite producing work that is so different. What's even stranger is when the two are fans of each other attending the other's events.
This is precisely what happened with Carrie Underwood and Post Malone, with the former being a big fan of the latter's work. The two first met after one of his shows in Nashville, and have since then been great friends, and have come a long way since Underwood appeared on Jimmy Fallon and attempted to sing one of Post Malone's songs.
Millie Bobby Brown and Dakota Fanning
This is another example of opposite world's colliding, but in a much more conventional way, with two child stars finally crossing paths and meeting. We're all familiar with Uptown Girls Dakota Fanning and Stranger Thing's Millie Bobby Brown. We've all watched them grow up on the screen, so the two can relate to each other quite a bit.
Granted, the material they starred in is quite different, but that doesn't ruin the moment Millie finally meets one of her idols and inspirations to start acting so young, as in 2018, you can see how visibly starstruck she is upon seeing her hero.
Margot Robbie and Love Island Cast
Imagine joining the cast of a reality TV show like Love Island, and finding out one of the biggest fans of the show is none other than Margot Robbie. You are suddenly hit with the realization that such a big star also loves watching you on TV, giving you this sudden mixed feeling of pride and embarrassment.
This is what it was like for the actual cast of Love Island, as the Birds of Prey actress not only admitted to loving the show but invited the members over for a very fancy soiree. Lucie Donlan revealed that Margot had sent them a video message begging them to come over, and the event was very relaxed and comfy as they all got to hang out.
Keke Palmer and Hilary Duff
We aren't the only ones who enjoyed watching child stars growing up on television. Other child stars loved watching others of their generation doing what they do. This spawned some early idols among the child star community.
Everyone's favorite Scream Queen Keke Palmer is one who watched child stars grow up, watching shows like Lizzie McGuire and loving them. You can imagine what it was like then to finally meet her idol in 2017 when she ran into Hilary Duff at the Golden Globes.
Lupita Nyong’o and Leonardo DiCaprio
Here is but another example of celebrities shamelessly guilty crushing on other celebs. Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong'o is seen crushing over fellow Academy Award winner Leo DiCaprio at the 2014 Oscars, almost barely able to contain the excitement she felt.
The 12 Years a Slave actress spotted the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood actor in the crowd and walked up to him during one of the commercial breaks, saying, "I'm very sorry to bother you, but I'm Lupita, and I've been dying to meet you."
Rihanna and Aaron Paul
While Rihanna was earlier on this list for being on the receiving end of fans coming up to her for pictures, here we see her being the fangirl this time, with the circumstances being incredibly strange. When you see a white van speeding to a halt in front of you, your first instinct is to run, no?
Not unless you're Aaron Paul and are being suddenly assaulted by Breaking Bad superfan, Rihanna. While at some event, a white van came to a stop by Aaron, and Rihanna hopped out and sprinted at him to give him a massive hug, apparently needing proof that she got to meet him.
Sarah Paulson and Madonna
When it comes to discussing "fashion's biggest night out," you know that there is always something to talk about when it comes to the annual Met Gala. It was a night to remember for Sarah Paulson as she finally got to meet the Queen of Pop.
The American Horror Story star was dumbstruck, her mouth agape at the sight of Madonna at the event. This was undoubtedly one of her highlights of the event, and she certainly got her $35 000 worth for the ticket to even see one of her idols.
Tiffany Haddish and Oprah
Everyone knows of Ellen DeGeneres and the surprises she loves to give to all her guests on her show. It's a massive payout; for others, it's a less than pleasant run-in with a creepy clown. But for Tiffany Haddish, it was a life-changing moment.
While on the show, as everyone anxiously waited for her surprise, Ellen told her to look and out-stepped the one and only Oprah Winfrey. Tiffany was beside herself in joy as she got to meet one of her heroes, crying and even asking her to be her auntie.
Emma Roberts and Niall Horan
Back in 2013, One Direction was everywhere, as everyone's favorite boy band took the world in their pretty little hands. Each boy was subject to fangirling, and some like Gigi Hadid even got in their good graces and became the partner of Zayn Malik. Some, not so much…
Emma Roberts made little attempt to conceal her excitement to meet One Direction member Niall Horan at the 2013 American Music Awards. Niall was certainly less interested than Emma, but that didn't stop him from being polite and letting her sneak in a selfie.
