It is hard to believe some people on social media thought Gosling wasn’t a good fit for Ken. Who are they kidding? Gosling literally IS Ken. Here are a few hilarious moments on the press tour where Gosling forgot that he wasn’t actually Ken in real life.
Back in July 2022, Gosling made an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to promote his latest film The Gray Man. Despite being a year away from Barbie’s release, Gosling took the opportunity to share with the world why he elected to accept the role Greta Gerwig had called him to take up. Just bearing in mind, this interview was well before Gosling had fully immersed himself in the Ken-press, so this was just the beginning of his hilariously absurd remarks about Ken. Gosling revealed that he decided to accept the role after walking outside to find his daughters had completely mistreated, and frankly abused, a Ken doll. He said to Fallon, “You know where I found Ken, Jimmy? Face-down in the mud, next to a squished lemon. I texted Greta and I said: ‘I shall be your Ken, for his story must be told.'”
Far later down the track, Gosling began the actual press tour which led directly to the invention of Ken’s Rights Activism, with the most outspoken representative being Ken himself. In his interview with GQ in May 2023, Gosling took no time to launch into his perspective on Ken’s lacking complexity. Gosling stressed, “His job is beach. For 60 years, his job has been beach. What the **** does that even mean?” A couple months down the track, Gosling is undeniably falling deeper into a Ken black hole, some fans even worry if he remembers who he actually is anymore. In an interview with Buzzfeed in July, he confessed that it has been more difficult than he expected to separate himself from Ken. And what better analogy than one through food, especially something as delicious as Cinnabons. Gosling said, “It’s a bit like that Cinnabon mix, once you open that cannister, it’s very hard to… once you open it, you’re making cinnabons and you’re loving it.” LOL.

In an interview alongside leading lady and Barbie herself Margot Robbie, ExtraTV questioned Gosling on the beauty process behind achieving Ken perfection. Although he didn’t completely admit his routine in front of Robbie, suggesting there are some things Barbie "doesn’t need to know," he was all too willing to talk about the mystique of Kenergy. Gosling insisted, “Very little is known about Ken-ergy. We don’t have the funding for research. We know that it’s real. In my case it came on as a rash and then it turned into a tan… So I don’t know. But hopefully with this film if the conversation starts we can start funding it and really finding out 'What is Ken-ergy?'" One thing's for sure - we'll be waiting to find out!
