From Shrek's wisecracking sidekick to Prince Akeem of Zamunda, we've watched Eddie Murphy steal the show in endless adventures over the years. But in only a matter of time, he'll be wooing a different crowd as he returns to the comedic stage. And we've got everything you need to know.
It all started when Kevin Hart sat down with the Saturday Night Live funny guy to talk about the question on everybody's mind. And you can bet he didn't hold back: “Eddie, I don’t like talking to you about stand-up no more," Hart joked of Murphy's stand-up standstill. "I’m not fallin’ for the... trap."

As for what Murphy had to say for himself? For starters, it appears the wait is finally over. Well, at least if he had it his way. Unfortunately, fate had other plans. “My plan was to do Dolemite, Saturday Night Live, Coming 2 America, and then do stand-up," Murphy revealed to Kevin Hart on his podcast Comedy Gold Minds with Kevin Hart. "And then the pandemic hit."
Instead of preparing for his return to the stage, Eddie suddenly had bigger things to worry about. If things had gone to plan? "The whole time last year, I would have been out working on my act trying to get my [career] right," the actor explained. Sadly, the pandemic "shut the whole [thing] down."
But hey, if Murphy taught us anything over the years, it's that life is like an onion (cue Donkey). In other words? The Shrek comedian's still got a whole lot of tricks up his sleeves. But don't take our word for it: "When the pandemic is over, and it’s safe for everybody to go out and do it, then the plan is to do it," he hinted at his stand-up return.
We don't know about you guys, but we can't wait to catch the funny guy slay the stage again. Until then? Make sure to catch his latest adventure, Coming 2 America on Amazon Prime. And be sure to stay tuned for all of the latest updates!
