After spending decades starring in some of our favorite movies, Cameron Diaz is putting herself first and has decided to put her Hollywood days in the past. While it's a hard pill for us to swallow, she's confident in her decision and is finally happy with her daily routines.
"I just decided that I wanted different things out of my life," Diaz explained. "When you're making a movie - it's a perfect excuse - they own you. You're there for 12 hours a day for months on end and you have no time for anything else."
Fellow actress and friend Gwyneth Paltrow asked Cameron what it felt like to move on and leave her acting career in the past, and her response was rather inspirational. "Like peace. A peace in my soul because I was finally taking care of myself."
The actress explained that she's never had any time to focus on her personal life, and that's what she's most looking forward to about retiring. It's been five years since we last saw Diaz in a new production, and now we finally understand why.
Cameron told Jimmy Fallon that she absolutely loved living in a "little bubble" with her husband, Benji Madden, and her adorable baby. "Before my baby was an excuse to stay home," she said. "Now I don't have to make that excuse."
Ever since her 40th birthday, Diaz vowed to find herself and became "self-sufficient" again, and that's exactly what she's planning to do. She credits her husband for guiding her through this journey, and she's excited to see what the future has in store.
