98 Degrees' Comeback Announcement Was Hilariously Overshadowed
| LAST UPDATE 09/20/2023
If you are getting a feeling of déjà vu, there's a good reason. It seems like everything old has become new again. The beloved '90s boy band 98 Degrees is reuniting, except there was only one problem with their announcement, and it has their fans in stitches. Here's what went down.
The 98 Degrees bandmates Nick Lachey, Justin Jeffre, Jeff Timmons, and Drew Lachey sat down with television and radio host Andy Cohen for an interview on Cohen's SiriusXM show, Radio Andy. Cohen got straight to it. He asked the guys how annoyed they were at *NSYNC for coming back together. The famous boy band officially split in 2007, but their last album came out in 2001. Over two decades later, all five band members appeared on stage for the 2023 MTV VMAs and announced they would make new music together. Their announcement overshadowed 98 Degrees's exciting news. Nick Lachey immediately joked with Cohen that *NSYNC "stole the thunder." Then, Drew Lachey added, "When one succeeds, we all succeed. Because we're all kind of like us, *NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, we're all clumped into the same, into the same kind of pile there. So, if one's elevated, it elevates everybody."
98 was one of the most popular boy bands in the '90s. They have sold over 10 million records worldwide. The entire group hails from Ohio but found their way to each other through friends and random connections. Then, they decided to form a boy band. After voting on many names, they came up with 98 Degrees. The rest, as they say, is history. The Ohio natives became one of the biggest acts of the '90s. However, despite fame and success, the group decided to go on an indefinite hiatus in 2003. Nick Lachey went on to have a solo career, releasing two albums and starred on the reality show The Newlyweds with his wife-at-the-time, Jessica Simpson. Drew Lachey became the second winner of Dancing with the Stars. Timmons also pursued a solo career, and Jeffre ran for mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio.

They have worked and performed together since 2012. Now, the boys are officially back together. It's been over 20 years since they formed their group, but Drew told Us Weekly, "In some ways, it seems like just yesterday that we got together."
