Tim Heidecker Has Created a 'Beautiful and Dangerous Virus'

news /

Tim Heidecker has given us many things: Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, Tom Goes to the Mayor, and the more astute fans will have noticed him playing roles in Jordan Peele's Us as well as Ant-Man and The Wasp.

His latest gift to us comes in the form of something that sounds truly horrible on paper, but in practice is actually incredibly great. It's puns, you see. But not just regular puns. These are puns of the names of people who've been on SNL told in the form of a story. Here's an example, courtesy of none other than H. Jon Benjamin:

See what he did there? You take the name of an SNL performer, and then work it into a story as a pun. Here's another example from Heidecker himself:

It's helpful to have an encyclopedic knowledge of SNL's staffers, past and present, since the best ones often involve less obvious deep cuts. Of course, that doesn't apply if you're a dog puppet.

Our old pal Triumph *does* need a job, but in the meantime it's perfectly okay if he just wants to keep making videos of intricate puns.

But the phenomenon has spread well beyond the alternative comedy scene's underground upper echelon (that's the official term for all these people.) Heidecker himself called it a "beautiful and dangerous virus."

It's true, now that regular folks are getting in on the action, this trend is spreading faster than New York City's highly dangerous measles outbreak! ....too soon?

There's too many to share here, but this one deserves a spot in this post because of the excellent face this woman knows to serve at the end.

That's the official pun face that all must make after dropping a pun. This is the law.
