One New York native has just been hailed a hero by the online world, after his shocking act of kindness. In fact, it's about to restore your faith in humanity during these trying times.

Mario Salerno, 59, owns about 80 apartments spanning from Williamsburg to Greenpoint. But given the crushing pandemic that's swept across the country, he decided to give his tenants a very generous helping hand.

On March 30, the charitable businessman plastered a sign on the front doors of all of his 18 buildings, announcing he'd be canceling this month's rent payments.

“Please note I am waiving rent for the month of April 2020. Stay safe, help your neighbors, and wash your hands!!!,” the inspiring notice read.

Of course, it's no surprise that the selfless New Yorker has gained a well-respected name for himself over the years.

One fellow resident, Scott Hechinger, even described him as, "Truly one of the kindest people I've ever met. He & his family make everyone feel like family."

"For me, it was more important for people's health and worrying about who could put food on whose table. I say, don't worry about paying me, worry about your neighbor," Salerno has since explained about his viral deed.
